Justin or whomever wants to chime in what realistic can bowman and company really make without sacrificing youth. Too many bad contracts and no movement claues. So what trades would (the panel) make and what would thise trades look like.

The Clendenning commentary is relevant as far as he could move up the line to the spot occupied by an NHL DEPTH DMAN, NAMELY, OESTERLY. Irregardless of any major player transactions, Oesterle may be sacrificed in a trade. It is not that I AM PUSHING FOR THIS; IT IS MoRE TO THE POINT that there are several new signed dmen and perhaps another one or two may ink a deal as well. There is simply more offensive dmen than necessary should you consider that at some point strong AHL performance could led to a cup of coffee for Snuggerud, Dahlstrom, and Tuulola.

The other side of the coin in the depth on defense discussion of course focuses upon the much needed more physical brand or style expected from a Gilbert and Hillman. so there is really a logjam at both the NHL and AHL level mindful of the dmen on hand currently. Jokiharju probably is allowed to play in Finland if he is not really, really impressive. You need to be careful not to rush him then wind up sending him down. I like FORSLING AND THE oTHERS aforementioned TO PLAY AHL.

I do not recall if you were more excited for or more against Forsling playing nhl the early part of last season, Darth. But would you agree that Forsling needs to be playing regularly and I AM NOT SURE HE HAS PROGRESSEDD MUCH after reassignment to AHL. He was exposed and force fed Ulf's system because he had the quick reactions skill to handle it better than anyone else on the NHL roster, but, unfortunately, his entire readiness for that level became too much for on the job training. That is what wiz has told me. I therefore just want Forsling to gain confidence and play regularly, to improve in the AHL.

No doubt both Stan and Joel need to save their jobs. Young players who are not ready I say will not stick around long next season. Which is a good thing. Because after next season not only will more prospects be closer to the NHL, but the future of two big contract players will be closer to headlights - yes, Toews and Seabrook.

This could then be the onset of a significant rebuild and moving out of the old guard which is no longer as capable. It is a whole other topic about Toews in particular.

I just cannot accept any player whom you never know what you are getting in his performance when it is due to being scarred to play hard. You know a certain type of player that is not their forte. Fine, I know what to expect. But inconsistency from Toews at his price tAG IS MADDENING. You know the only way he walks away from the game and his big contract is if his ability slips. Next season we watch and see if concussion and body parts (back ?)is an even greater concern leading to a reductiuon in Toews performance.

It is a guessing game. I say that primarily because I for one am uncertain if Stan is really going hard at adding enough grit and toughness.

Help Wanted: Enough players who will check hard, often. Throughout the lineup. You can try to get away with just using a Hayden and Martinsen. But those are two not prime time players, at least not now. Regular season maybe we get bullied and walked over somewhat but in playoffs any team lacking physically does get exposed. And taken advantage over the team's shortcoming. So we just really wait and see. I cannot say anything we dream up is going to be what Stan does, anyway. It usually plays out that way with fans and what their GM winds up doing.

or one possibility is that Stan puts his foot down and orders Joel to play certain guys. It is going to be Stan's way and not Joel BECAUSE IF sTAN TAKES THE HEAT AFTER A BAD SEASON, HE HAS TO KNOW THAT IT IS ON HIM, NOT Joel WHOM HE LET sCR*W HIM AGAIN.

I BELEIVE THOSE GUYS CAN PLAY BETTER TOO.

bUT MAYBE NOT MUCH BETTER.

kEITH. he is the one player above others whom really could drive the team to better results. Well..that and if Kane was a leader whom the entire team protected and fed off.

OTHER hope to hear some news abut Carlsson at least if he attends prospects camp. like does he impress in gap coverage, can play at speed, makes good reads, how physical a game might he play. I know camp evaluation is not a great indicator. But maybe just whet our appetite. I have a suspicion he could become better than some of the young dmen who have progressed to the NHL and have not a great future.

That fearlessness can also pay dividends by getting in the heads of the opponent. Exhibit A: Ryan "no human can withstand that many hits" Kesler. I'm sure the Timex Watch mentality of the Hawks was demoralizing to some degree or other.
- AEL_Fox

Totally agree. Plus trying to hit too often can take the hitter out of the play and also takes a physical toll on the hitter. It seems that for every time they run into the player they are trying to hit, they end up just smacking themselves against the boards, and the boards aren’t as soft and squishy as the players they are trying to hit.

Good to see them finally get by Pittsburgh. Didn't think Pittsburgh had what it takes to win again.

You could say this about any position's pipeline of prospects, but there is a redundancy of offensively minded blueliners in the Hawks system. Not everyone will make it, of course, so I believe it is in the hands of the Hogs coaching staff and the Hawks player development staff to determine which one of the prospects can play a solid, committed 2-way game and when each is ready to graduate (or will never make it). A few of the offensive D-men need to seize the moment and create distance between them and the logjam by being consistently reliable in their own zone.
The other side of the coin in the depth on defense discussion of course focuses upon the much needed more physical brand or style expected from a Gilbert and Hillman. so there is really a logjam at both the NHL and AHL level mindful of the dmen on hand currently.
- jhawk59

Developing more defensive defensemen should be a priority, IMHO. I know in the draft the general strategy should be taking the best draftee available at that point in the round, but if there is a tie (all things considered) between a D man who is primarily offensive minded and one who is primarily defensive minded, I would put a premium on the latter.
Jokiharju probably is allowed to play in Finland if he is not really, really impressive. You need to be careful not to rush him then wind up sending him down.
- jhawk59

Agree, don't rush Jokiharju. Don't rush prospects in general. Example: Forsling. If it's a no brainer for them to earn a spot on the Hawks, then fine. Example: DeBrincat.
I do not recall if you were more excited for or more against Forsling playing nhl the early part of last season, Darth. But would you agree that Forsling needs to be playing regularly and I AM NOT SURE HE HAS PROGRESSEDD MUCH after reassignment to AHL. - jhawk59

Someone else mentioned this many blogs ago, but when offensively gifted prospects get sent down to the AHL for seasoning, sometimes the expectations of the parent club and the AAA affiliate isn't for them to light up the scoresheet. Instead, the focus is to round out their overall game, gain confidence in all situations, and become dependable in each zone. So maybe for Forsling, his homework is to get stronger on defense while continuing to naturally refine his offensive acumen.

I thought the Jets would come out on fire and pressure the Preds all over the ice, instead they came out flat. Preds got a lucky goal to go up 1-0, but the Jets had 3 PP's and did nothing with them. Now down 2-0, Nashville will just go back to the old left wing lock they used in game 4. Really surprised the Jets played this poorly at home in the biggest game the franchise has had in a long, long time. I really wanted the Jets to win this series, but losing at home has to be deflating and I just don't see them winning a third time in Nashville, especially a game 7. I guess I'll have to pin my hopes on Vegas knocking out the Preds.
