Ecklund: "On Jack Johnson...I am hearing the Hawks have him on their short list to bolster the D. According to several well-placed sources, the Hawks are going to be extremely creative this summer when it comes to trades and signings. "Look for them to make some of the more newsworthy deals in the NHL over the next 4 months..."
hmmm...sounds about right |

The Jack Johnson "level" of defence makes sense for what the Hawks are looking for. I haven't heard anything specifically, but it's apparent that Columbus will not be reseigning him.
His point production has dropped over the last few years, so maybe his value is lower than that first tier of UFA dmen this summer. He's still a top 4 though.
The "creative" aspect that Ek is referring too could be something to do with Hossa. It sounds like they might be exploring options to dump his contract. - Justin Lowe
Justin what teams would take hossa contract ? What the trade look like similar to to datzuk trade a couple of years ago? In my opinion the hawks at least 3 years away just too many holes and lack of depth in the organization what i m getting at is would the hawks consider moving kieth if the right package came along from a contender. What kind package of assets would offered for the hawks to move kieth? As he gets older his value goes down and might be able to move him in a few years and moving him would signal and complete rebuild. Thoughts and opinions welcomed. |

Washington’s Tom Wilson will have a hearing today for an illegal check to the head on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese. - riozzo
Yet Malkin gets away with a knee the the head, and walks free. F bettman for keeping that scum franchise alive. |

Would one of those boxes be the penalty box?
I’d take him in a minute. He might be a bit over the top, but I’d rather he be ours. - Spec41971
That is possible no different than Shaw. However he has that grit to his game with some skill, a decent skater. And for the love of God he hits and doesn't take Sh!t from other teams. |

Lol, not that many holes. They can fix everything summer if they are willing to spend money and unload some surplus assets.
Tavares fills one and solves the "Toews too many draws\pressure" problem
Veteran on friendly deal to play in top six and baby sit the kiddos is two
and a top 4 defender is three
They're set with the first two \ three lines pretty much and if they can sort out the top two defensive pairings then they will be fine.
Move Saad to the RW so he can cut in and generate his own shot when entering the zone instead of skating in a circle like Kirk Heinrich.
Some top 6 of: Debrincat, Toews, Saad, Tavares, Kane, Schmaltz or player to be named
Third line of: Strohs, Hayden, Some savvy veteran,
Fourth line: Kamf, Martinsen, some guy
Maybe DuClair or AA slot in there somewhere if those contracts \ rights aren't moved this summer.
Either way affords Q a lot of flexibility and they should be able to score a bunch of goals.
D: Keith, Murphy, Player to be named and Seabrook is not the worst top 4. Maybe you get a step from Gus and you have Keith - Some guy, Gus - Murphy, Some guy - Seabrook. Shouldn't be too bad.
And a healthy crow.

Ok hawks are 1 to 2 centers short at least 3 defense man short backup goalie top six forward. Size more speed physical players and depth in the organization are lacking it will take longer that just this offseason if the hawks want to contend for the cup again. Just observations and opinion. |

There’s a lot of him to miss. I think he’s the only player not named Kane from the 09-10 championship team that is still playing at a high and effective level. - Spec41971
I guess that depends on your definition of effective...lol
Yes, Buff appears to be having a great playoff season so far. Too bad they are in the Central or the Jets would be my favorite Canadian team... |

can anyone enlighten me why Pekka Rinne is not facing a discipline hearing for a 2 handed lumber jack style swing with his goalie stick to a Jets player with his back turned. A little higher and he could have broken a few ribs or potentially other much worse damage. |

Agree shoulda been fired after the season just one more year for bowman and Q to mess things up I thank them both for the sucess of the hawks and cup wins but the last 3 years have not been pretty to much infighting and not on the same page a power struggle. |

Because suspending Rinne would almost guarantee that the Preds lose that game... |

Scott gotta disagree completely. Actually if these play-offs have taught anything it is that these teams are not great teams and have lots of weaknesses. The Hawks are not far away at all. A poor record is actually very deceiving. I’m not defending the Hawks’ record but an increase of only 10 wins changes 33-39-10 to 43-29-10 and 96 points. With an increase of only 12 wins the Hawks’ record is 45-27-10 and 100 points. The Hawks had many games lost because of poor goaltending when Crawford was lost. Lost other games with Ulf’s Offensive Defensive System which will surely change and actually was modified as the season went along. Also lost a bunch of games at the end of season when the record really dipped as Hawks just couldn’t get up for the games. Hawks could easily be right there again next season.

Nah not that many.
The teams above them are winning with less they just need another high talent guy at center, one at D and then fill in with some guys who aren't complete idiots - and I think they have most of those already. They're just asking a few guys to do somethings they aren't capable of.
The talent pool in the NHL is super diluted and if some of these guys have off years the same year or injuries happen it creates a big problem.
That being said if the roster remains constant then it will be another meh year. |

Ok I respect your opinion its possible with some good moves and drafting hawks could be right in the mix. Just my opinion I think they farther away than some people think. |

Some of the holes I mention can come from within other need to come from trades and signings I just want the hawks to get back to when they were on top of the mountain. This offseason is crucial for the hawks future so bowman and company have some heavy lifting to do.

Bowman being 'creative'. That's exactly what this team needs. Bowman hasn't demoralized this team enough, now he's going to be creative. Mueller should investigate Bowman instead of Trump. |

You should. I know players had to be moved out, but I always thought he was a mistake to move.
Wonder if they still win two more cups if Sharp was moved instead of him. Or I guess at the time, Bolland was making similar money. |
