Todd what do you think about the devils pursuing John Carlson in free agency? He just had a career year and will most likely get paid more then he’s worth but he will help bolster our defense I’m on the fence about him because as Shero said Cap space is very important |

Tavares Tavares Tavares. Its gotta be a crazy long shot but even after resigning depth guys (Wood, Coleman, Noesen) and hopefully Maroon, they can still give him 10mil a year and still not even sniff the cap. They also have no one besides Severson and Schneider signed super long term. Hall and the kids will eventually be due for raises but again, their book will be almost clear before Hischier, Bratt, Butcher etc. even hit RFA. Toss in a winning culture, the chance to stay in the NY metro area, and low-key it is a pretty compelling pitch.
Hall and Tavares, the new Toews and Kane? |

Players like Carlson and JT don't hit Free Agency too often. You pay those guys. I want Carlson, but don't really care for JT. Getting both might be a cap nightmare and very unlikely to happen, but makes us instant contenders.
I think our goal this off-season is to get 2 top 4 D. |

There’s no such thing as too much money for a legit 1C in the prime of his career. |

actually shocked that Butcher was worse at getting shots through than Greene.
Carlson may be coming off a career year but I wouldn't call him a defensive stalwart and the devils need a reliable minutes eating defensive defenseman. I'd rather worry about developing Butcher, improving Severson, and keeping Vatanen healthy as the offensive defenseman.
Also it's important to note that while the Rangers will have more cap space than the Devils on july 1, they have several important RFAs to re-sign - Skjei, Vesey, Spooner, Hayes, and Namestnikov, and the latter 3 are not coming off ELC's so they will get paid more most likely. Rangers RFAs will chip away more at their cap space than the Devil's RFAs will. They have 3 1st round picks and 2 second rounders. It makes sense for them to rebuild but with Henrik still there who knows. |

Butcher likes to bank the puck off the back wall. Curious if that would askew that stat at all. He had plenty of assists (39) if so, I wonder how many of those were off the back wall were intentional, but counted as a shot attempt. |

I love Tavares, but don't see the need for another center on our team. We need a dman. Carlson will cost a lot, but I don't think he is leaving the Caps anyway.
I really think Mike Green would be the best dman to target in FA. Would cost between 5 & 6m. Not one of our dmen are capable of playing that gritty game that green plays. He makes mistakes, but I think he can bring a physical aspect to our defense that we haven't had all season. I'll never forget when Mike Green dropped the gloves with Kovy. Plus he can chip in offensively. |

Cant see Tavares ever happening especially when Hall will need extension soon and Nico and Butcher wont be far from big pay days either. I definitely sense with our stock of forwards a big trade for another D on the way, could package Severson in same trade! |

Getting JT from a diff. perspective.
1. Increase fan base
2. Attract higher quality players to team, possible for less.
3. Stealing fans from Rags |

I think he would be the best possible signing this offseason. JT will be looking at 12.5M+, and I think Carlson will be closer to the 7-8M AAV. At 28, that is not a bad deal. Especially when you look at his 68 point season, currently leading the caps in playoff points, and has 25 points in the past 3 playoff runs of just 31 games. The guy can play all situations and realistically put up about 45 points with ease. |

12.5?! No even close. He isnt 97. 10 MAX. possibly even 9 @ 8 yrs. JT is not 12.5 money. |

Hischier had a chronic wrist injury all season and still played this well. He'll be healthy without surgery in 4 weeks. Kid's good |

If you have the opportunity to sign JT and/or Carlson, I don't see how you can pass on that. It is so hard to get real impact players. |
