Hall, Nico, and Butcher are a great core to build around.
Schneider is a solid elite goalie.
Guys like Zajac and Boyle provide experience.
The Devils are trending up. Devils fans can be disappointed by their playoff run, but they certainly can be happy with the overall direction the team is going. |

Just because the Devils didn't take advantage of Girardi doesn't mean he's not one of the worst defensemen in the NHL (he is). - CaptCrankypants
Agree. But.....
He is now playing on the one team (or one of the only teams) where he can fit in and contribute. He is awful at everything except blocking shots - which is exactly why he was brought in to Tampa. He is not expected to be a top-pair guy (although Cooper strangely puts him there from time to time) and can be used in limited roles where he can perform decently. His advanced stats in this series were not terrible (not good either).
When we first signed him, I groaned and bought a bottle of bourbon to drown my sorrows. Poor McDonagh thought he had escaped that ball and chain, and now he has to be tethered to Girardi again. But, he has not been the dumpster fire I feared. Cheap contract, short term - as long as he doesn't implode and cost us a series, I am OK with him in a limited role.

Blocked shots is the most overrated stat behind +/-. If you're blocking shots that means your opponent is shooting. Girardi blocks a lot of shots because he can't actually stop anybody from taking them. He is so horrific that he is a garbage 3rd pairing defenseman.
It's amazing that he still has a job in the league but "veteran presence", "playoff experience", along with his grit/60 and #intangibles keeps getting him paid. |

The Bolts have a former 1st round pick LD in Koekkoek who is riding the pine because Jon Cooper has never trusted him enough. He is the second best D skater on the Bolts behind Hedman and he has offensive flare. Yzerman made a deal to protect him in the expansion draft and he is still an RFA but most likely getting traded this offseason because Cooper won't play him. He would be a great additional to the Devils for the right price.
Going to be interesting to see what Tavares does but the Devils are a good landing spot as all the others. With 20M in cap your team can dictate what it wants to do.
It was a fun series, your team played hard but were just outclassed by a deeper skilled team. Best of luck next year to the Devils. - stammerman
Koekkoek would definitely be a guy I’d like to see the Devils bring in, good skater, moves the puck well and could solidify a third pair if the Devils let Moore go and trust Butcher with top 4 minutes next season. Problem is I have a tough time recalling a trade that Yzerman hasn’t won in convincing fashion. I’d hate to see what we would have to give up to get him. |

problem is that there is no incentive to trade anybody because they have managed to get everybody under cap and everybody thinks we're actually going to get that huge cap bump this year. |

You are not wrong here and it's hard to argue with that. Personally, I wouldn't have touched Girardi with a 10-foot pole. I'd dress Koekkoek over him every day. poop, I would dress Foote over him.
"Intangibles" I guess. LOL.

I think Pierre should keep making NHL fans look terrible on national TV by yacking about the beer cans some more. moron.
with that said... appalling officiating. Goals 6 and 7 doesn't happen if that clear as (frank)ing day trip is called. pretty incredible.
the excuse that the puck was touched 1st is bs. how many times do we see tripping penalties and the puck wasn't touched? and Pens fans calling it a dive. priceless. |

Ignoring it only allows it to continue. But let's be real. That is in Philly DNA. Your team stinks, throw poop on the ice. |

while it's true, the bandwagon person or casual viewer just watching playoff hockey cuz it's on channel 4.. may see that and be turned off to the sport. The announcers could've tried to minimize the throwing crap on the ice,.. panned to Crosby and talk about how great he is.. or the drama between the 2 rival teams.. but instead they maximized the embarrassing act and wouldn't let it go. The sport gets no coverage as it is in the states, so one would imagine the broadcast would do their best to present the sport in the best possible light for the brief moments it's on a main channel. obviously philly fans are idiots.. obviously the refs continue to suck.. but it's also obvious the sport ranks below MLB, NBA, NFL, college football and probably soccer, in terms of popularity and coverage. |

Alright, the series is done and the trash talk is over.
I want to say this to you, the Devils faithful:
You guys have one hell of a young team. Hall and Hirschier are outstanding. I really like Vatenen and Butcher.
Look at the massive swing in points from this year from last- that's outstanding. I even kinda like that Hynes guy you have behind the bench.
Coleman is a top-notch 2-way agitator with a touch of skill; love guys like this.
It may have been 4-1 for the series, but you guys played us WAY closer than that reflects.
Good job, NJ. You had my attention, now you have my respect. |

Thanks and good luck the rest of the way. Make us look good by killing the next teams!
