Anaheim will have 5 open slots on the offence for next year, possibly 6 if the Patrick Eaves situation never clears up. Plenty of room for the like of Troy Terry, Max Jones, Sam Steel, and some of the kids in San Diego who have played well. The big question mark is the coach. I think it mainly depends on who is available or if they feel comfortable giving Dallas Eakins another shot.

Nice write up Steve... congrats to the sharks they were the far better team... I like Vegas in 6 in the next round though.
Ducks are pretty set from the backend out which is key ... All the future guys are young enough and signed ...
I today's league fixing the Forwards is the easiest of the 3 groups ...
Ducks have good enough kids in the wings to stabilize the lines with youth. The task is the top RW and 2nd line C to pair with Cogs and Silf ...
Trade perhaps some of the D depth in the minors and a pick or so for legit top wing. Make Rico and Kase with ?? someone the 2nd line and drop Kes to the 3rd with Pears on the 4th.
Goalie is set for the next 5 yrs.

Good post Mr. Palumbo.

I can see the Ducks making a quick turn around and being a legit contender sooner than later. I thought it was odd that they signed Carlyle to begin with.

Not sure I'd fully agree with you on Perry - I think he's still got a couple more quality years ahead (unfortunately - I really hate the guy). If he learns to stop crossing the line and keeps himself from taking stupid penalties, the guy's still got it. He was robbed by some freakishly awesome saves by Jones.

Agreed - Gibson's legit. Yeah the Sharks torched him in one of the games but he also kept them in the other games and made some incredible saves.

Why can the Sharks fan see Perry for exactly who he is, but so many Ducks fans can't?

Looks like Bieksa had a hissy fit at the exit interviews today. Seems he wasn't too pleased he didn't any more PT in the playoffs. Says he won't be re-signing. There's 2 open spots now for either of Welinski, Pettersson, Mahura, or Larsson. The defense will be much more mobile next year!
As for Bieksa, dude, it sucks to get old. Thanks for the great fights this year. Good luck wherever you end up next year.

Who is Bieksa kidding? He's delusional if he thinks the Ducks even want him back.

Kesler admitted he had to basically learn how to skate all over again. We saw him at 70% at best. Let's see how he comes back next year before we're quick to drop him in the lineup. He lost 20lbs and plans on coming back next year with this current weight. I think the shutdown line of Cogs, Silf, and Kes stays together.

Eaves will be back. Already announced. Had labrum surgery and is expected to be fully recovered by mid October.

Anyone writing off Perry need only look to Dustin Brown as an example of bouncing back with a new coach. Everybody wanted him traded or bought out. Brown had 28G, which ties his 2nd highest season goal production. He's also one year older than Perry. Although, the line of Getzlaf, Perry, and Eaves will probably be the slowest line in the NHL. lol

We'll know about Henrique soon enough. I'm sure Murray will try to resign him this summer. If contract negotiations drag through next year, then I think he's going UFA. I can see Ritchie traded. He's RFA and took a step back this year. Kase will be signed, and I can see Grant offered a contract.

We will see a new 4th line. Maybe Grant, Steel and Jones. Terry also in the mix. J.T. Brown was a nice addition but may not be kept.

The D will be the continued strength of the team next year. Fowler, Manson, Lindholm, Montour (will be signed) and then throw in Pettersson, Larsson and Megna. The real jewel in the system (D - imo) may be Mahura.

Carlyle will be fired. If not, then all bets are off.

Steve, we love Gibson, but a hangnail puts him on the shelf for 7 games. He's earned the reputation of "injury prone."

I like where you're headed here as a line Kes Cogs Silf I just don't think will score enough for 2nd line ... could be wrong.

If Eaves comes back even half as healthy .. well then that's tremendous. I just don't know enough about the disease.

If Mahura is the best of the bunch keep him and another and package some of the others for a real finisher up top, and put Pears with Rico and Kase.

And give the 4th line to the kids with Grant as an extra.

Horrid ... just an awful first offseason move... and I’ve been a fan of RC’s. However it was time for another coaching change ... I can only hope it’s a very short leash ...

It is a very short leash. Murray basically stated how he wants the team to play next year. If Carlyle doesn't do it, he's done.

Poor Terry! All that skill with those two? Put Roy on the left and let Sam Steel see what he can do. I'm tired of an old-school fourth line. Give me four lines of skill.

Rakell - Getzlaf - Kase/Eaves
Jones/Ritchie - Henrique - Perry
Cogliano - Kesler - Silfverberg
Roy - Steel - Terry

You think he can change his style of coaching in 1 year when he hasn't even changed as the NHL shifts in the last 10 years?

Short leash ins't good enough. The NHL has passed him bye. Bob is just stubborn and can't admit it was an awful idea to bring him back in the first place 2 years ago.

I think so too, but as an RFA coming off a down year, I could see Murray signing him cheap. You also have to think about Silf as he's UFA after next year. Those are the last two remaining pieces of the Bobby Ryan trade, so I don't see both leaving.

Hi Steve, you also blog for the Sharks, don't You? How come I've seen 3 blogs on the Ducks since the sweep, and nothing on the Sharks team that's moving on to face a difficult Golden Knights team?

That's simple. The Ducks got blown out so bad by the Sharks that there is far more to dissect on the Ducks end of things.

Oh that's easy. The ducks are a train wreak right now. Basically we are reality TV show. Case in point. Somehow Bob decided to fire our defensive coach who did a decent job but has decided not to fire randy the head coach. We all be like "What???"

I think "train wreck" might be a stretch. The D is young, fast, and only going to get better. Gibson is excellent and on the cusp, I believe, of elite status. As far as Carlyle is concerned, I think he's on a very short leash. I'm not thrilled he's staying at all. Train wreck teams are in need of a rebuild. Ducks need to retool, not rebuild.
