If it's not going to be GG, then I'm happy it'll be Peters. There are no clear upgrades available, so a lateral move is the best I could've hoped for. |

To be honest I would much prefer Alain Vigneau.

I'm with you. I'd like a proven coach who has a successful track record. Holding players accountable seems to be what's missing most. |

Him and Trotz were handed really good teams. Not saying they're bad coaches, but they aren't as great as everyone thinks. NYR has had 3 coaches in the last 13 years. No playoffs in 2 of those. Washington had 3 in 11 years. Have only missed once.
Edit: Do you guys think GG would have had different results if he were the head coach of Washington or NYR over the last 3-4 years? |

So maybe you should think about his track record for getting his teams in the playoffs first hmm..?! |

LOL, Trotz made the playoffs 7 times before being "handed" the Capitals.
Coaches still have to manage good players and put them in positions to succeed |

I don't think the Rangers were ever "really good" as far as team depth, they did however have The King.
I think AV uses his personnel pretty wisely in my opinion.

Ya, with the preds. They've been quite good for a long time. Like I said, they aren't bad coaches, but they aren't studs like some people seem to think. |

How is that? All you hear from them is that his player usage is poop. |

One thing for sure, if this hire doesn't work out, it'll be his last. |

You know, Peters actually wouldn't be so bad. He is light years up the learning curve than GG was. Their goals may be similar in playing possession hockey but Peters has way more structure & doesn't pull any punches with players. He has been asked to coach at the WC's twice now & has won gold, GG has never been asked to coach at that level. GG just didn't have the experience & really didn't know how to juggle lines, push the right player buttons, show some flexibility, etc. I find myself gravitating to a real hard a$$ coach like Sutter or hoping Trotz becomes available, or what the appeal was with Quenville.
Thats because these fckg players seemed to give up on GG these last 15 games.
Look at the high pedigree of Babcock & Leafs. Last year the took Washington to 7 games & they free rolled like Vegas cause they had zero expectation. This year they expect better & it aint happening. So the history & getting someone that has the loads of experience doesn't necessarily translate to success. I'm beginning to think coaches are about as voodoo as goalies. Look at the Oilers when they hired Chirelli as GM & Mcllellan as coach. Mcllellan had a pretty impressive won loss record & Chirelli had built the Bruins & had won a Cup. Sweeney was the laughing stock & especially after he traded us Dougie. Look where the Bruins are at today.
I guess I'm preaching perspective. Whatever coach we do hire, that "has" to come with some big changes in players, that might even dig into the core. & I think that is what is going to happen. Would love to see Flames go after Ryan O'Reilly. May take Brodie & Bennett for O'Reilly + maybe their 2nd (which will be almost like a 1st) & maybe a very good young player. Who knows. |

lol don’t blame the coaches
Not their fault you have an overrated defense and pathetic forests depth
Peters is a better choice than the other names out there |

The negativity on here is astounding, no wonder flames fans are getting a reputation lately of being whiners
Babcock has won one playoff series since 2013 despite being in playoffs routinely. Torts was thought to be the worst hiring and look what he's done to the jackets. There's no guarantees of good coaching in this league.
And for the record, AV does value experience over youth which is why Glass was played regularly in the playoffs while Buchnevich was buried in the lineup this year despite being one of their best. Trotz isn't a guarantee to get fired and if he can't get the caps out of the first round, why would we want him?
You people are never happy, give the guy a chance. |
