What's up with Bennett? Seems like he just didn't hit his potential. Could he use a change of scenery? I always liked his game. - J35Bacher
He really struggles finishing his chances and he takes *a lot* of bad penalties. |

Do you think he will be available. His name seemed to be out there a lot. I know Calgary wants a 1st rounder but i am not giving a first just for Bennett. I would need more included.
I would like a youngish NHL vet for the Flyers 3rd line and he intrigues me.

Why would the Flames give him away for way less than what a 4th overall would normally get. Kid is 21 years old. I recall Couterier struggled for awhile & I didn't see Flyers bailing on him for bottom price. Talent is there, some take a little longer to translate to the NHL. In all fairness, Bennett has had mainly anchors to carry around on that 3rd line, Brouwer, Hathaway. It's hammered his confidence, Janko may be a future line mate with him but he was a raw rookie last year. Maybe a new coach will figure out who our top 6 forwards should be & get them to click. |

It's probably going to keep changing throughout summer as rumours emerge, but here is my most ideal and more importantly, realistic hope for the flames lineup next year:
Gaudreau - Monny - Anderson (trade)
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Jankowski - Foo
Mangia - Shore - Perron (UFA)
Lazar
Gio - Hamilton
Kulak - Hamonic
Brodie - Andersson
Smith
Hutton (UFA)
Notes:
- Bennett and Kylington and B-level player (klimmer/shink/poirier) for Josh Anderson and 3rd round pick out of CBJ. The guy is a RH more consistent version of Ferland, who can now be moved down the lineup. He signed late to a 2-year deal in CBJ meaning he could be reluctant to stay
- Perron signed to 2-year deal no more than 3.5M per (perennial 40 pt producer)
- Stone traded for late 2nd/3rd round pick (look for a desperate sucker that needs big shot D)
- Shore re-signed while Foo, Andersson and Mang make the jump
- Hutton signed to 1-year deal cheap (~1-2M) as a UFA. Excellent numbers last couple years - give 50 to Smith and rest to Hutton
- 3M kept together because they're awesome
- Brodie kept because he's worth more than we'll get. We also don't have anyone ready to make the jump on the left yet
- Brouwer bought out because it doesn't need explaining
- If all else fails, sign Tavares because it's nice to dream |

I'd like to see someone other than Frolik with Backlund and Tkachuk. If the Flames got Perron, I think he'd be a good option. Hell, maybe even see what Foo has to offer. |

Frolik had one bad year due to a bad facial injury and low SH%. He was amazing last year when he was fully healthy. He still put up great possession numbers too.
Wouldn't hate to see someone else there but I'd prefer to keep 3M together to start the season, personally. |

Here are my thoughts on next years line up.
Gaudreau-Monohan- Ferland (to start)
Tkachuk-Backlund- ??
?? -Jankowski- ??
?? - Shore- ??
Giordano-Hamilton
Hamonic- ??
Kulak-Anderssen
Wotherspoon
Anyone not on this list, IMO, can be moved. Obviously the return must be worthwhile for each player. The noted players make up the core of this team and the right side really needs to be completely redone. Brodie, Frolik and Bennett would constitute the need for greatest returns in order to be worth it.

How do you figure that Anderson is more valuable than Bennett or that he's more consistent than Ferland? |

How do you figure that Anderson is more valuable than Bennett or that he's more consistent than Ferland? - Hunkulese
Kind of the wrong question don't you think? How do you compare a D to a forward? I don't think he is saying that Andersson is more valuable or consistent than Bennett or Ferland, he has him there because the Flames only depth really appears to be on the Defence side. If you look at the last 4 years (including this coming draft) 3 of the 4 first rounders were used to get Defence in Hamilton, Hamonic & Valimaki, only Tkachuk was the lone forward early pick. Add on to that, in the year we acquired Hamilton, we used 2 2nd rounders to acquire young blue liners as well in Shylington & Andersson. Add the pleasant surprise Fox has been for a 3rd rounder & we have some very good depth in the pipeline at that position. Just my take on what he was saying.
Now saying that, I don't think Bennett should be traded unless a decent return can be made, otherwise you stay the course with him & hope the light goes on soon. We can still do another bridge with him before making a hard decision.

He's talking about Josh Anderson and specifically says he's more consistent than Ferland and that the Flames should trade Bennett plus some potentially useful players for him. |

How do you figure that Anderson is more valuable than Bennett or that he's more consistent than Ferland? - Hunkulese
Why more valuable? Because Anderson has produced at a higher level from a pure stats perspective in a similar role.
Why more consistent? Because he didn't disappear for a large chunk of the season despite not getting 1st line minutes with an elite sniper and playmaker. He's had a reduced role and produced regularly.
Not a knock on Ferly, he's just not made for the 1st line. Bennett needs a change of scenery before it's too late for him.
Not to mention, that isn't the main point. If Benny was a RH shot (to get more PP chances or get fed one-timers easier) or could produce anything with Johnny and Monny, this wouldn't be a convo.
If the flames wanna get over the hump, they need either a balanced lineup (CBJ, VGK) which they don't have, or an insane first line (BOS, TBL) which they are closer to but don't have.
Just spitballing, I'd love to hear your suggestion to make this team better. All I see is criticism on this site with no one giving actual remedies. This was mine |

Nothing wrong with that, but what would be the solution? It's easy to point out a problem. It's hard to really figure out what to do though.
I feel like we're at the point where we're gonna have to deal with the fact that some fan faves might need to be moved to get this team where it should be (ie. Benny, Brodie)
