Another coach may may get him to play defense. - JimmyP
Better coaching sure would help, but the player has to have the desire as well. I wonder if Fitzgerald is hired as Isles GM if he could possibly hire Scott Stevens as coach? That could be interesting. |

I think questioning JTs leadership is a bit much if not very short sided.
Every single player that has played with him has said he’s a great Captain and is the hardest worker they ever played with.
Some leaders are vocal rah rah guys and some lead by example. I think the later is respected by their teammates tbth.
I mean when the Islanders won their first and only 1st round series under Snows rein JT basically won the series on his own.
There isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t want JT on their team and god forbid The Phucking Rangers open the vault and get him, let alone him and Karlsson

No one ever questioned JT's work ethic. Working hard sets a good example, but doesn't necessarily make you a good leader. Otherwise I agree with your post. |

It's not about desire. I don't think any forward likes playing defense. They do it because it's part of their job.
The whole team sucks defensively. They were trying to play pond hockey. I bet JT would look a lot different under a coach with a defensive focus. |

Working hard and leadership are two different things. Leadership is being able to call out a teammate in private or going to the coaching staff with a suggestion on improving the system and even going to ownership about the GM and coach. JT seems to be the type that does not want to rock the boat. Isles need leadership that will break up the country club and get everyone out of their comfort zone. |

Of course it does. Saying something is easy but when you go out and lead by example, work your nuts off it feeds your team. He was the Cpt of the Generals in Jrs as well.
We will agree to disagree on him not being a good leader or Captain.

Some forwards take great pride in shutting down the opposing forward and they see it as more than a job. JT cannot wait for things to happen he should like to make things happen even change. |

I never said he's a bad captain. I prefer a more vocal captain, but there have been many good captains that have been publicly quiet. I have no idea what JT says to his teammates. |

And how do you know that he never did call his team out? Are you assuming that because of the even kiel and temperament he shows publicly?
Have you ever seen Crosby or any Cpt call their team out in the press? The Flyers list 10 games in a row this year and did Geroiux call out his players in the press? It’s not what you do.
Maybe saying we need to be better which JT has said numerous times this season alone, adding “and it starts with me”. He’s all about the Team, he’s all about winning and he’s all about leading by example.
Also He’s not the coach, you can’t have the nuts run the nut house. Is he supposed to set the system, make trades etc. come on Ses.
I totally agree to disagree that JT isn’t a good leader / Cpt. |

I think you like a more emotional Captain vs vocal?
As far as what he does in the room? No one but his teammates know. Maybe he screams and yells, maybe he gets real quiet when he’s pissed and that gets the message through? Who knows, and that’s the way it should be.
I don’t think Johnathon Toews is vocal at all yet he’s noted as a great leader and again leads by example as does Crosby.
Again everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but I think he’s a good leader and Captain as well.

I do not want JT ripping guys in the press. Even Doug said JT has to improve his leadership. I did not post JT should make trades but ask Ranger fans if they are upset Messier got Roger fired and then Keenan was brought in. Leadership is not doing the nice thing it’s doing the necessary thing sometimes. |

Well I’ll ask Brooksie
I don’t think Mess alone made that call but, I’m done with the JT not being a good Captain leader discussion because for me it doesn’t have legs. Others think he’s a bad leader and or Cpt and that’s fair.
I actually think he’s been the best Islander Cpt since Peca, Brent Sutter and ultimately Potvin. |

It's not Hard for JT to be better than Streir and Jonsson.
Messier was key in that firing. We will just agree to disagree. |

Yeah instead of just throwing him on the PK and expecting that to transform him into Patrice Bergeron. Like declaring cizikas is suddenly a third line center and paying him like one. |

Snow loves low talent players, just like he loves inexperienced front office personnel. It makes him feel like less of a fraud. |

Why the (frank) would they announce a change in GM after the draft and let 3 days of free agency go by, as our franchise player has the ability to walk? - Dedshark
Dude look at the date.... It was a joke... Islander independence day |

Not one person here is in the room or knows how players do or do not react to what JT says or does as captain of this team. Wow watching on TV and from the stands does not give you perspective into the thought process vs the production of the players in that regard. You can dislike the results, you can call for the coaches and the GMs heads based on results and failed moves, but when you think you are that clairvoyant, then it really is time to get some help! |
