I think he likes the idea of Eichel-Mitts-O'Reilly down the middle too much to get an offer worth making that deal.

IIRC, the day he took over he was asked about Ristolainen and he flat out called him a top 4 guy.

Plus, I think Risto at 4 more years and 21 or so million is far easier to move than a guy who is due 6 million during the potential (probable) lockout.

Fwiw I'd move ROR as well but I think the contract hurts his value a bit.

Bc of all the d-zone work O’Reilly gets,
plus PP1 & PK work...
i don’t think you’re ever gonna see him get
“3C minutes” here
Not anytime soon anyways

And since he doesn’t score a ton of even strength points anyways,
how much would his production actually drop?

Mitts will eventually start to eat into his time a little...
but with those 3 at Center,
i think their lines would all play a lot & we’d see the 4th line minutes drop a bit

yea it'd be entirely dependant on what happens to his pp minutes if anything.

If Mittelstadt took some of RORs minutes and got him down to 18 mins, that would be best for all involved

I agree O’Reilly is overplayed

As much as i like him here,
I don’t think trading him is necessarily a bad idea

It’s all about what we get back
Would absolutely have to be a young player we feel confident could be part of our “core” going forward,
plus a prospect &/or pick

Can’t be a Kane-like return
No way
F that

It’s gotta be the same for Risto or Sam
These guys can’t be moved for “parts”
At least 1 “core” player needs to come back our way in each of these potential deals

It'd definitely be better than that. Kane was a pending ufa winger. ROR an under contract (albeit bad one) centre.

He'll get a bigger return, just not what most ROR fans would appreciate.

The only guy who can't be traded is named Eichel. I am, however, extremely wary of the idea of a trade to shake up a team. For one, I think the GM is dealing from a position of weakness. Also, reactionary moves are rarely smart. I don't think trading ROR or Risto would make the team better. If I were presented with a great offer though, of course, consider it. He won't go down hill in a year, and a year of sheltered minutes will help Mittelstadt

I ran the NHL simulator once. The Sabres won the lottery. Our core will be enhanced by Dahlin. All will be good.

Regarding ROR, I agree with your above post. I am totally fine with keeping ROR unless they get a really good package for him. Those three guys down the middle has the potential to be very solid. However, if Scott Wilson and Girgs are playing top 9 wing minutes, the strength down the middle will all be for naught.

Evander Kane >>>>>> what we got for him

It’s really as simple as we need to ADD to the GOOD PLAYERS we already have

Not get rid of them for parts that MIGHT help us YEARS from now

i still don't understand your need to capitalize key words, it doesn't actually strengthen your point nor do we miss it when it's in regular type.

This team is 2 years away anyways, if dealing them for picks/prospects (good ones) better positions you for that, why wouldn't you?

The good players we have do not mesh well together and do not play a style our coach and GM want (besides Eichel)

It’s that simple as well

I still want to know how vegas has more chemistry after 1 period than this team in 10 years

The really good teams only start adding players when their core is set. This team's isn't even close. It's why signing players like Okposo were a mistake from the word "go". Find your core, then start adding players. A "core" of Eichel, Kane, O'Reilly, Reinhart and Ristolainen was never going to get them anywhere near a championship.

they exploited weak link theory, which can really only happen when you're an expansion team.

They knew there were no sets of moves to add stars, so they used other teams idiocy (looking at you florida) to ensure that on most nights they wouldn't have the worst player on the ice.

It's a collection of 2nd/3rd line guys and 2nd/3rd pair players. Not really a model you can make work unless you are literally starting the team from scratch.

if there is a lockout in 19-20, do you sell off this summer and tank to ensure 2 more good drafts behind this one?

serious question as if they tank in 18-19, and a lost season in 19-20

bogo, moulson, pommer, scandella are all off the books

and another year of tanking ensures 2 top 5 picks plus what we get this summer
