In our pipeline, who replaces Simmonds? I'm not asking to be a jerk and I'm 100% with you on concern of what he could command in a new deal. However, when you talk about your players in the pipeline, who are you talking about? Who should I watch closely coming up to replace Wayne Simmonds? - SuperSchennBros
Issac Ratcilffe has the potential to be a similar player. |

at 31, which is the age he will be when this deal expires, if he is asking for 6 million for 5-7 years i have to say no. - nastyflyergirl
The problem is if he is asking for that term and $ ...other teams looking to maybe trade for him will have the same mis givings the Flyers may have....maybe the trade value coming back won’t be worth dealing him...

I also dont think you can worry about spreading offense at this point..
Load up the first two lines until get you some goals the worry about spreading things out.
Finally someone smack Jake and Giroux into regular season form please. |

I would trade Simmonds tomorrow. And I don’t mean that as in get him off the ice for this series. Just saying I don’t expect him back here nor do I expect Hexy to throw a contract at him based on his philosophy. Nor am I mad at him, just think his time in philly has run its course and I loved his run here and will always root for the guy (unless he’s in a Pens/Rags uniform). I do think if we traded him at last year’s draft (sorry MJL) we could have gotten a solid young player or roster player to play on this roster this whole season, plus a 1st. But oh well, we didn’t. - arichardson22
When did I say the Flyers couldn't have gotten a solid young player and or draft picks for Simmonds if they had traded him at last year's draft?

He doesn't need to be in the pipeline. He can be acquired through trade if said player isn't in the pipeline. - ggunky
And I hope for all our sakes, Hextall pulls the trigger when that time comes. By this I mean bringing in a body, not giving one up. |

right but if we're using him as some sort of a comparable the salaries aren't even close. i'll happily take Simmonds at 2.8m for 6 years. |

This exactly, the Flyers need to stack the top half of the lineup at this point. I wanna see this:
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
Lindblom-Patrick -Voracek
or
Giroux-Couturier-Simmonds
Konecny-Patrick-Voracek

What do you by this and keep in mind, I'm just asking. In 08/09, contracts were a lot different. What was the hit for that insanely lengthy deal Richards was given? |

Hak has been patient to this point but I agree he may want to switch up some things and go heavy on the top two lines....big game Wednesday....on a positive note I’m heading to the Toronto-Boston game tomorrow night...have a boat load of Bruins in my playoff pool.

No way If I am the Flyers I give out that kind of contract to a 31 year old power forward. Been there, done that. Especially when you have prospects in the pipe.
That being said, For the first time in my life I turned off a Flyers playoff game before it was halfway over.
The blew their load in the first and came out down 1-0. When they went down 3-0 I knew it was over.
Its not our year so I hope these young kids take some good lessons. It is nice to see 4 of them so far getting their first career playoff goals. - MBFlyerfan
Agreed. I love Simmonds, but he seems like the odd man out. If he gets that kinda loot, it’ll be the Lucic contract 2.0.
Unfortunate that he’s had such a down year which hurts his trade value big time. If he is indeed hurt which I do think somethings been up with him all year, if they did negotiate a favorable cap hit and term I’d be fine with it.
It seems like everything is pointing to him leaving though. Patrick’s emergence on the PP1, the young prospects coming up in the short term, and other guys in the near future that will command a significant raise. His recent lack of production isn’t helping.

Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Patrick, Konecny and who? That's barely two lines. |

In my opinion, this idea that Simmonds down year has hurt his trade value is overblown. I also don't think Patrick's emergence is much of a factor either. Patrick is a future top center in this league and his future on the PP is as a distributor of the puck on the half wall rather than as a net front forward.

First off, nowhere did I say they would replace Simmonds.
But I would look at Ratcliffe, Strome, Twarynski, Bunnaman. Vorobyev, even Lindblom.
There are more big bodies in the pipe.
And I'm sorry, I don't want to be paying a 32, 33, 34, 35 year old Wayne Simmonds 6 million. And if none of them pan out in to a 20-25 goal power forward they can go out and sign a younger forward to do that job.
For me its about cap space and cap usage.

Love Simmer but 5-6 years at 6m+ for a career minus player at 29 years old who plays the game hard and puts his body on the line is a huge gamble contract and could potentially be really bad by year 3 or 4.
The hope is that Patrick, Lindblom, TK, and some other prospects can elevate their production and help minimize the loss of Simmonds. No guaruntee there either but i think it's the less risky path. - Mordecai
This, plus the fact that he can likely land them at least a 1st round pick back and perhaps a bit more is why you actively look to move him at this year’s draft.
It may hurt a bit in the short run, but until more youth comes in and they upgrade in goal (hopefully with Hart), they aren’t going to be contending.
At best, they’re probably still no better than a bubble team again next year and they probably won’t be a top contender before 20-21 when today’s kids are entering their primes and the next wave has come in.
I can’t see any way in which Simmonds is going the kind of offer from Hextsll that will keep him here and I don’t blame Hextall one bit for that. A GM cannot think with his heart. I love what Simmonds has brought to this team over the last few years but it’s time to move him. Let the Chiarellis of the world be the one to sign him to the 6 year 35 million plus deal that you know he’s going to get.
It cannot be personal, it is a business and the successful GMs are the ones that grasp that. |
