Let’s be real, this team was never going to win a Cup this year no matter what. Patrick, TK, Provorov, Lindblom and Sanheim are getting valuable playoff experience. Hopefully Hak will do the right thing and get Hagg some too.
In the long run, that is what really matters. These kids are the future and soon kids like Morin, Hart, Frost, Myers and a lot of others will be joining them. This is just the beginning, have faith. - BiggE
2 soft goals in today's game hurt.
He lost his net on the first goal and on the 4th goal...
sigh. |

Absolutely 100% correct and I'm in full agreement with that outlook. However, what I can't accept in this series, is one, absolutely no push back in the first game after getting down. They simply weren't competitive in the game overall. That's unacceptable. In today's game, the Flyers were easily the better team early, had a breakdown and gave up a goal and then got stupid and careless! It wasn't the young players. It was the veterans and the star players. Unacceptable. Losing to a better team involves no shame if you play hard and play the right way. They haven't done that in two out of three games.

It is maddening. They are dominating play. The flyers have a bad turnover and next thing you see is Elliott in the corner hanging out with the ice girls.

Why should they have traded Simmonds at last years draft? |

When does Simmonds create scoring opportunities? Rarely is the answer. He needs someone on his line to create opportunities for him in most situations. Also, with Patrick showing he can be just as good if not better than him on PP1 he becomes expendable. I like Simmonds I really do but he doesn't bring much to the table in 5 on 5 play and if you can't see that you haven't been watching very often this season. I know for a fact they aren't going to sit Simmonds for Weal in this series but at least Weal has some speed, drives the play and creates chances for his line-mates all things Simmonds does not do. |

Why should they have traded Simmonds at last years draft? - MJL
In my opinion, his value would\will never be higher.
In my opinion, he isn't a part of the core moving forward. because of:
In my opinion, he isn't worth 6+ million a year for the 6 years or what ever it is he will be signed for.
Because of the things I listed above, in my opinion, the Flyers would have benefited most by trading Simmonds at the draft last year. Of course this is contingent on the Flyers having a team or two who would have been interested in trading for Simmonds. |

I point the finger at Elliott. 2 weak goals. You don't win playoffs game with 2 softies in a game.

So you completely discredit the actual scoring that Simmonds has done in his career because he doesn't create the scoring opportunities, he just finishes them? Makes sense. I don't see Nolan Patrick's future in the NHL on the PP as a net front presence. A player of Simmonds caliber is never expendable. That is ridiculous.
Simmonds has had a down year no doubt, but he has been a solid producer at 5 on 5 and on the PP in his career and if you can't see that then you haven't been watching very often. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he has a physical issue. Weal doesn't drive spit and even in this down year Weal is not half the player that Simmonds is.

You're clearly using hindsight here and expecting the Flyers to have clairvoyance in knowing that Simmonds would have a down year this season. If Simmonds can rebound and I believe he can, he will be worth that contract. I'm not saying there aren't merits to trading him also, but I don't agree with your statement. It's not based in the reality of the situation.

1.Stay out of the box.
2.Stay out of the box.
3.Get TK on the top line.
Simmonds should be out of the lineup but I'll save my breath. I have no faith anyone on the team will say enough is enough with him. - hereticpride
Simmonds has to be hurt or at least I hope so based on his play. thing is guys like Filppula, Lehtera and Read at least bring defensive play and a PK role (not that the PK has been good). Simmonds has to bring offense and physical play and he has brought neither for a long while now. |

Not using hindsight.
Look at my posts from last year, I was calling for him to be traded.
Hence, me saying i was beating a dead horse.
Please explain to me what you mean by "not based in the reality of the situation."
I don't understand what you are trying to say. |

I don't discredit his scoring ability as I said I like Simmonds. I just look at the makeup of the Flyers currently and all the prospects, and there has to be an odd man out. If I had to guess it'll probably be Simmonds. The way they are using him right now doesn't benefit him either, Filppula can't create opportunities for Simmonds and Simmonds isn't creating opportunities for himself. Maybe put him with G and Couts and you'll see better results but idk I just don't think he is going to be a player we see stick around for the long haul here. |

Carry over from previous blob:
I don't think they should sit Simmer unless he says he can't go. Dude has got to still be dinged up. He was pretty productive until he went out with injury. He hasn't been his normal self since he has been back. That is a classic "nursing an injury" pattern. I also think maybe they use this to try sign Simmer at a cheaper rate/favorable term over the summer.
I also don't think you bring in Haag in the middle of this series unless there is an injury. That is asking a lot of a rookie to come in in the middle of this.
If you want to bring in Weal for a spark, mabye Lehtera sits, put Laughton at center. |
