Have either Marner or Marleau play center on that line - in any case, Marner can't do worse vs Bergeron on C than any of the other options.

And I'd add Martin and Borgman - have 7 d-men.

- MaximusAurelius

Sure he can he has never had to have that below your own goal line shadow the best 2-way center in the game responsibility.

With Kadri out options are pretty limited.

If it was my call I’d run Marleau at center and alternate Matthews/Marleau against Bergeron and double shift Matthews on line 4.

Engvall has 4 goals 3 assists in 9 games with the Marlies.

Grundstrom has 1 goal 2 assists in 2 games with the Marlies.

Play Nylander’s line against the hottest line in hockey seems like a likely disaster.

Marner has played well but I’m not sure that line could pull off a single successful dump in against playoff Bruins.

- Blazed

It is either Matthews or Nylander

An option I can realistically see is play Pleks with better wingers to shut down Bergeron.

Hyman-Matthews-Kap
Lievo-Nylander-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Johnsson
Marleau-Pleks-Brown

(frank) idk, Babs has a tough decision that is all I know

Marleau didn't work

Marleau and Marner both help the team more on the wing

Nylander is the only winger who can play C effectively

That’s a tough call. Plek was brought in to give a defensive matchup option but it hasn’t worked yet.

I’m sure he has pride and would love another chance but if your Babs do you roll the dice on Pleks containing that line, it’s a ballsy move. Could really free up the offense which is what he tried for in game 1.

I guess it's very clear that Leafs need to let JVR go, and push as much as possible to sign Tavares.

Marner on a line with Tavares might have Tavares score 50goals

Pleks has it in him, if he has Brown and Marleau on the wings that is probably the best defensive option that does NOT contain Matthews in it.

I have confidence in Kap and Johnsonn playing high in the lineup.

Create the best defensive line you can and fill the rest of the three lines accordingly

I would like to see a win by Flyers as well, but the quality difference between goaltenders is just too much it seems...

Yeah. They both got assists on Engvall's goal.

Liljegren's got 17 points in 44 games. Pretty great for an 18 year old d-man in the AHL.

And Bracco has been on fire the past month with assists. Still not overly good at putting the puck in the net yet, though.

the only other question is who do you want to give up to get better on D..

Gardiner?
Zaitsev (I'm quite sure he'll stay).
Rielly? (even less likely to go).

or a forward?

Zaitsev won’t go because of that contract. Rielly should not be traded as he is their best D-man. Gardiner can suck it on another team.

It'll eventually be Gardiner. Dermott will be his internal replacement in a year or so.

Bracco was never really good at scoring. Elite playmaker though.

Well, I agree
but to get a young topline D that can actually play defense and kill penalties, Leafs will have to give up Gardiner + good forward (and 1st rounder) probably

Sure, if they get Tavares go out and overpay for a cheaper defender.

Calgary has like one 2nd round pick for the next two years

If you are the Leafs and you sign Tavares do you throw a couple 1sts and Johnsson, something else for Hamilton? Does Calgary take it?

Personally I'd like to see Gardiner + Nylander + 1st (+?) for Seth Jones + Boone Jenner

True. But I expect he'll score more next season.

He seems to take a little bit to get used to a league but once he is used to it, he lights it up. Like his second season in the OHL. I'm hoping he has the same jump in play next season for the Marlies.

I've been of that thought since we drafted Dermott. I've always thought highly of him.
