The Leafs don't have the horses to make any changes that are going to win them this series. That's what the offseason will be for. They do however, have some combos they can take advantage of at home that might make the games more competitive.
Nylander / Matthews / Marner
Marleau / Bozak / Kapanen
Hyman / Moore / Brown
van Riemsdyk / Plekanec / Johnsson
Yes, load up one line. The Leafs have the benefit of last change and can throw our three best forwards at their weakest pairing at will.
Keep JVR off the ice until the PP, use Hyman, Moore and Brown to try and shutdown the Bergeron line the best you can, throw Bozak out there against Krejci and use the Matthews line against the Bruins 3rd and 4th lines as often as possible. |

I'm not going into full defeatist mode yet. Those first two games were ugly, but if the Leafs can pull their heads out of their asses, I think this series could still be salvaged, although they are no doubt in a bad spot. If they lose game 3, it's probably all over.
I gotta admit, that top line is sexy.
The Hyman, Moore, Brown line might work.
The Leafs definitely need to figure out the best shutdown line they can put together and match it with the Bergeron line as best they can. Need to shut down that offense and we need to get our best scorers the (frank) away from that trio and hopefully their best defensemen too. |

Defeatist mode would have been trading every pending UFA at the deadline and boy does that look good right now.
But Boston is going to have to fall asleep at the wheel big time for the series to be salvaged. At this point, it's just about showing some competitiveness and not getting swept. |

Defeatist mode is deciding it's over before the games have played out.
You are unusual as a fan because you do not generally display any optimism towards your team of choice. Personally, I feel that part of being a fan is believing in your team, even when things aren't looking so good. This can be taken to extremes that make people look foolish, but a little optimism just makes things more fun and exciting imo.
I get that you like to be realistic, and if you look at our odds of winning in betting pools and such, I'd bet they are pretty bleak right now, like 20% or something abysmal like that, but... like I said, for most fans, a little optimism goes with the territory of being a fan.
Anyways, hopefully game 3 is a better viewing experience for us Leafs fans. |

Optimism is earned and they haven't earned it in my book, not yet anyway. In some regards, they have earned it in terms of the future is bright, but the present day performance isn't there yet. There is a long road ahead. |

It obviously depends on money, but I think I’d rather go for JT over Carlson.
We’re losing our center depth with Bozak likely leaving, and with JVR probably gone too, our third line looks a lot weaker.
Carlson is coming off a career year... I think a normal season for him is in the 40-50 point range, like Gardiner and Rielly had, and he doesn’t do much for shot suppression. Still, he’s going to take this 68 point season, and leverage it for a huge 7-year contract, probably as high as 10M per, Which will never live up to what he’s done this year.
I’d rather spend that money on an actual star player, that helps us fill a position we don’t have depth in. For D, we at least have some interesting prospects that can start to move up. Even if it’s 10 for JT vs 7 or 8 for JC... I’d go Tavares. 6.5 for JC I’d be interested... and nothing over 10.5 for JT... but hopefully he’d take a cut to come home. |

I expect the real Leafs to show up tonight and a big win in game 3.
Game 4 will be the key for me.
Hopefully the officiating improves tonight... |

If the leafs win the next two games then its a whole new series. But it starts tonight with a convincing win. They must score first. |
