I am leery on Boqvist, although I have never even seen any highlights on him. Wilde is a fine defenseman and probably dropped because he isnt shiny enough as a point producer.
I also like MacIsaac, but not at 7th.

Stay away from Hughes, those types are always ßcattered throughout rounds 3-7.

Bode Wilde and Quinn Hughes are going to be defense partners next year and probably the best defense tandem in the NCAA.

But Hughes is the better d-man

There's a lot that points to him as the steal of the draft if he figures out the defensive side of his game more. Prototypical modern NHL d-man, skating and IQ is very high.

I don't "like" Hughes. He's one of those players that just seems to good to pass up on. He had 4 more points then McAvoy did during his draft season. Hughes is also one of the older players in the draft. He's probably going to put up 40 points a season for his career. He would probably make a good pair with Gudbranson.

I think most scouts (I have read) report him as having a higher offensive ceiling than someone like McCavoy. Just not the D acumen at this point

hahaha then why are you leery? don't like the name?

Hughes, and this is well known, is on another level offensively. I'm not saying I hope he is picked, but claiming you'll find another similar player is just false with the exception of Merkeley who is even more all-out offense.

When you cant find hilites of a top rated player it makes me leery. Not sure what you mean about his name.
I have seen Hughes play about 6 games this year and find him to be brutal defensively, he looked similar on defensive plays like that Girard kid from Colorado...another puckwatcher, no thanks.

I agree with you, don't want anything to do with Hughes and I'd prefer to avoid Boqvist as well. Dobson is certainly the safest dman after Dahlin this year.

Let's hope he is available when we pick.
No complaints from me if we got Bouchard either.
Obviously, I would love to get Dahlin...but Canucks, so won't happen.

Oh there's tons of tape out on Boquist, so I was confused with what you meant. Girard seems pretty darn good for Colorado.

Hughes may seem like a good pick but not at 6. Maybe 10-12. He's probably never going to be a #1 D. Some team though that already has a #1 D will be willing to pick him in the top 10. Van isn't in that situation. If Van drafts 6OA and he is there. I would trade down.

It won't. Ran the SIM 15 times and we were out of the top 5 all but three times...got 1OA once.

Picking 6th or 7th gotta make the best of it

I'd rather take Bouchard than Hughes, I'd take him or Boquist at 6 for sure.

He's a lot like Werenski. I don't think Werenski is 1d, but a PPQB and top4 guy for sure. I like Boquist if he slides to us, another similar type.
- neem55

Werenski, I think may actually turn out to be better then Jones. He's 2 years younger. Werenski is about as close to a 1 without being a 1. I've watched a lot of CLB this year. Jones and Werenski drive that team. Same way Wpg got better when Trouba and Morrisey became good. Van need's some D. Not small ones either.

Morning!

New blog is up, taking a look at the Comets/Marlies playoff matchup and a dip of the toe into the central scouting rankings:

They would certainly help the team. Would still need to steal a #1 from somewhere.
