I'm not worried about losing Yamo so long as we get a medium to long term solution at top-6 W position. I believe Yamo will make it, but I'm not so convinced that I wouldn't just as soon swap him for a sure thing.
On an aside, I found an interesting trade proposal that would get Lucic off the books if he were to agree to going to Carolina: Lucic with 1mil retained for Darling. Reasoning by poster "John Chambers' on Lowetide's site:
I honestly would probably do it if I were GM. If I have to assume Chiarelli is still GM, then I wouldn't trust him to utilize that cap space effectively. - MaximumBone
It is a crafty deal, but one I wouldn't make.
If I'm willing to bet, Lucic will rebound next year. Nothing, and I mean nothing has been going right for the guy. We saw his frustration near the end of the season too. Statistically, his SP% is 6.9 below his career avg. btw! That's insanity! |

Yammer and Puljujarvi are interchangeable for you guys. If you end up getting Zadina, Tkachuk, or Svechnikov, it’s an even more expendable. - RafiDRW
Last time I checked, pretty sure you guys are the ones who are more likely to be drafting that high.
Regardless, Nyquist for 2nd/Yamo it is.

Would you swap out Hicketts and the 3rd for Saarijarvi? And I'd say bump the 2021 1st to a second that becomes a 1st in whichever year (if at all) the Oilers reach the Conference final leading up to that pick. - MaximumBone
How about this....
Nyquist and Hicketts
For
Yammer and a first.
It’s more than fair.
Hicketts top end is a decent 2. Like Klef or Nurse. |

But it's not just his shooting % that's my concern; it's that he visibly looks out of his element all the time. If he can't make or take a pass; can't carry the puck out of, into or through any zone; can't skate well enough to forecheck and can't even play the net front on the PP effectively then what good is he? He can cycle and hit and that's about it. I guess if he can produce like he did pre-Christmas it's not a complete waste but I think most players could produce similar results given a chance like that. |

Not interested in Hicketts; back to the Yamo and a 2nd for Nyquist |

Knowing chia and Holland though:
Nuge, Klef, Yammer and four firsts
For
Larkin, Kronwall, Svechnikov, and three firsts. |

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't be panicking and trying to ship him out asap. Just gotta relax a little bit.
Pre-Christmas, he was one of the few secondary scorers who was actually scoring and doing decent, especially when compared to the rest of the team's offensive output during those first 20-30 games.
Post-Christmas seemed like a player on a bad streak. A horrid streak that had no end in sight. Keeping him in the top 6 did him no good when he could have been put on the 3rd line sooner and possibly seen an alleviation of pressure and perhaps regained some of his confidence and game. That's on McL. When you see a struggling player, you gotta make responsive changes.
If he produces similar results next year, then we got a problem.
For now, he [of which he knows] has got to step his game up. But so does everybody else not named McDavid. |

The problem is that this potential opportunity is here this season and may not be next season. Carolina's owner seems to want to actively pursue a big, physical player to set the tone for his roster and has a pretty bad contract that could facilitate such a deal. That won't be the case next year as they'll have found some physicality and Darling will either bounceback or be bought out (depending on Carolina's understanding of why his numbers sucked). |

It's a risk I'm willing to make honestly.
IMO, all/most fingers point to a down season (more so a bad streak of terrible hockey and some bad luck; 6.9% below avg. career SP% for crying out loud... damn).
A likely rebounding Lucic (puts up at least 45 points, which is still below his career standard, finishing up plays, contributes on the PP if put there, hits everything in sight, and stands up for the star players) would definitely be a good thing for this team. Something I'm keen on keeping even with the consideration of the risk at hand.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. |

If he was making effective hits and standing up for the stars during that slump, I wouldn't feel so strongly against him but he was doing nothing. |

It honestly came out of nowhere too.
He was playing solid hockey till Christmas and accumulated 26 points in the first 36 games before. That's on pace for 60 points. It was looking like a career year for him.

Post-Christmas, he just completely lost his footing. Looked like a shell of what he showed us at the beginning. Looked lifeless. Guess he got coal for Christmas. |

Either way, I would be frustrated like hell (as he showed near the end) if this was the case too. From what looked like a possible career year into a major, terrible, bad, horrendous year over a matter of days... damn.

They've out played the preds in the first every game so far. Let's hope they don't choke in the 2nd and 3rd like they have the past 2 games. |
