They got that talent by being a disaster on the ice for years. Same for LA and Chicago.Mtl wanted to compete and make the playoffs, but not really go for the cup. This is the result. |

You said it yourself, Montreal would need to be a disaster on the ice for years as well.

Ok, well Anaheim won the cup more than 10 years ago (which is still a lot better than the habs), but you were talking about San Jose and Saint-Louis too, teams that had high expectations for years, but were never entirely fulfilled
Anyways, that's beyond the point, because I agree with you that tanking isn't absolutely necessary to win, and it sure doesn't guarantee you success |

I think there's examples of both models that worked. Yes of course Pitts and Chi are recent examples of tanking that created very good teams.
I'd rather see my team remain competitve and build on that but I also don't have confidence in their amateur scouting departement to find the players to do it. |

Je pense que tu viens de mettre le doigt su'l bobo.
I find it sad that the habs organization doesn't (or didn't, at least) consider winning that important for their farm club, arguing that they rather focus on individual player development, which clearly isn't working out. It's not impossible to learn in a losing atmosphere, but I'd rather see my players have fun and get a bit of a taste for victory before they join the big club |

The Habs organization's only concern with their farm team is does it have enough Quebecois to make it look like they're making an effort. They haven't focused on winning (aside from this year), but that doesn't mean they were all about individual player development. It just means the coaching staff sucked. |

I like when Bergevin said they haven't done mistakes in player development has none of the players they let go is having success somewhere else and that it's not the amateur scouting departement's fault either because the previous GM traded a first pick for Alex Tanguay. |

They should.
But honestly who were the Quebecois they drafted in the first two rounds recently? Leblanc and Fucale? Most of the guys failing horribly are americans, anglophones and europeens |

I find that "we need more Quebecers" mentality so annoying, and it's mostly driven by the fefans who flip out every time they see a Quebec player have success elsewhere other than in Montreal.
Also, that statement about individual player development may be just a lame excuse to cover the fact that the farm team sucks. Lefebvre got fired, and more staff changes are to come, it'll be interesting to see who they hire |

Perhaps that experiment with Leblanc made them think twice about drafting players based on their birthplace |

I'm talking about UFAs and PTOs. They're often going like ''Hey guys look we just signed Antoine Waked!'' and it's enough for them, then they just don't win or develop players. |
