If Barrie went off the ice like Carrier, then the league would be having a meeting with Johansen just like they did with Doughty. Johansen's hit was just like Doughty's, yet player's safety is ridiculously inconsistent.

Good read, I always enjoy reading the other sides view of things.
Only thing I can say is Vegas is the NHL’s New golden Child.

I could go either way on Johansen's hit on Barrie. I was actually expecting him to have a hearing. I don't think it was malicious or intentional, but it certainly finished high.

I wish they had some kind of a warning system for 50/50 "bad" hits like this one. It wasn't egregious. He didn't leave his feet & primary contact wasn't to the head. But it was a little high. If the league gave a small fine and a "technical" post-game foul to Johansen, then he would get a major and game misconduct in the next game for any similar hit. Like playing with a yellow card or something. It would make the player more conscientious the following game, but doesn't over-punish a 50/50 hit.

Interesting to me that Carrier was the subject of the Doughty hit and suspension & just a month ago, Carrier laid a late, dirty hit on Johansen's chin with primary contact to the head and wasn't penalized or disciplined. Maybe the league is giving Johansen a little grace because they dropped the ball last month. Of course, that doesn't help the Avs.

Hopefully the series will be fun & chippy but not get dirty. Neither one of these teams wants to become the Ducks!

Subban and Ellis should be up for an Oscar after that game. Avs played great otherwise. Monday is kind of a 'must win' now..
