I feel the only solution to shake out and send a message to this organization us for fans to stop automatically renewing seasons tickets. If the team keeps not giving a damn last several years except for Crawford and Darling and occasional game here and there, they will keep drifting with this GM and coach.
The equivalence with Detroit aging core ends with coach. When Zetterberg got old and Datsuk old and injured, you can still see Detroit kept giving it 100% in regular season , even almost kicking Blackhawks out in 2013 under our alleged best-ever HOF coach. Detroit core got really old and the team was losing but not for lack of effort. I would not have a problem with that, but I have an issue how this team is playing last several years. I know we may not be able to get Sullivan clone, this would be extreme luck but maybe Tortorella clone as coach is what this team needs but not going to get. Season tickets holders must send a message unless they are happy with this level of effort by the team in most of the games.

Most of you have probably heard about the tragic accident the SJHL Humboldt Broncos were involved in last night on their way to a playoff game. 14 dead, including their coach, captain, and son of a Flyers alum. Terrible news.

Lets say our management was blind then, but by now they sure should be opening their eyes after 2016 Pens cup.
What is needed from the coach is:
1. Fast up tempo style
2. Work with skilled players (and not Mashinter/Tottoo, players of the lines of which our presumed HOF coach trots in playoffs over Vermette/TT almost costing them that 2015 cup)
3. Demand full effort and commitment.
4. Play to players strength and treat them the same, no favorites or I-have-you (like Daley or Murphy). Past is the past and core got paid, demand the same from everyone from now on.
I am not worried at all about Blues getting coach Q, I think he, just as Sutter, are products of bygone era, and just working with the team that does not seem to give a damn anymore for their fans or the results. So this may continue till fans realize the product is very stale and stop paying money for that snoozefest on most nights.

Now Stan made more bad moves than good (including Runblad/Timmonen/letting Raanta/Nielsen go for nothing, along with overpriced contracts), but I do not think this team will wake up and start really giving 100% in every game without new coach. Esxhibit 1: Pens. Exhibit 2: Kings. Exhiibit 3: Bruins. You get my point.

Agreed, 100%. Stan and Q are still very capable in their respective role and they have the capacity to right this ship. One more opportunity to continue this amazing run is completely fair. Neither has been perfect, but the path in front of them is clear but far from easy. I think Stan will have a bigger challenge and it will make for a very interesting summer.
- DarthKane

It's more fair to their successors too. It isn't easy to follow a coach who has won three Cups with the team, especially when the guys who were the best players on the championship teams are still the best players on the current team. The future will be clearer a year from now and that'll make it easier to see if Q is still the right coach for the team or not.

True, but all you have to do is look a bit West to Vegas or a bit East in PGH and see a whole team performing beyond expectations and a D corp that even with B2B Cups no one's calling them among the best in the league.

Seems to me coaching has something to do with both of those. No one's saying Q should be able to turn them into world beaters but it doesn't always seem like he was icing his best lineup this season whether it was on the defensive side or even the fwds up front...and I'm not referring to these last dozen games or so either.

In your world I'm sure Bowman's at fault for speeding up Father Time on 2, 7 and 19 as well.

If it walks like a duck and swims like a duck etc............... for example Murphy has 333 games in the NHL. That's over 4 years experience and he was considered a huge bust in last place Arizona.. How can somebody think he's going to get any better at this late stage? Bowman has given up many many good players and gotten junk back time after time. It's all been documented on this board by Enzo and Oprah. How much more damage are they going to let him do?

Was he considered a huge bust in Phoenix? I don’t recall reading that anywhere - maybe I missed it.

He did play second pairing minutes for his last two seasons there. Even with the excuse of “they had no one else” - doesn’t indicate a huge bust.

Or was he moved to get an ecperienced multipleCup winning asset?

Sounds like this comes from the same source that told you Kane is really pissed about losing Panarin.

Yes where exactly was that written or factually documented? I'm aware of the perspectives of you and some of the other posters on this board who have employed your superpower of hindsight to inform me Stan is a bum extraordinaire...some of it I agree with, some of it, meh.

Bowman also drafted some players and traded for some instrumental in Cup wins. It's all been documented on this board as well and not just by me. I know I know, those Cup wins were absolute givens and I'm sure you never doubted the outcomes of 2013 and 2015 for a second.

They gave Bowman another year to figure it out so it's a win/win right? They either crawl out of their hole or they suck again next year and win the draft lottery (again) and Bowman will be gone.

Hey PDX, I've been following this all day...just an absolutely horrible thing for those families and all of the communities involved. Very tight knit communities up there. They're reporting 15 dead now. It really puts everything in perspective.

Some of the coverage I've read is absolutely heartbreaking and after seeing pics I can't believe anyone made it out of there.

Apparently one of the survivors has a broken back who knows if this kid will be able to walk again. Gofundme page has already raised 1.2m and it sounded like all of the Montreal Canadians players will donate - I'm sure others will do same.

The video of Hitchcock's post presser last night as well as Babcock's morning meeting with reporters really spoke volumes. Babcock is from there. Thoughts and prayers for the families.

I don't think you can say right now what will happen with the team success and therefore we would just be spitballing about the future of both coach and GM. There is too many factors to weigh in, but you are certainly correct there has to be an improvement in both points and level of play.

Bowman has said that he wants the teasm to be tougher to play against. This is surely his same viewpoint today and going forward. He just needs to keep some more players with grit and more physical play out of many who did not show barely any this past season.

Adding one or two who are physical/display grit is not going to get the team a whole lot better. Too many players don"t have even a semblance of push back from the very beginning. Players need at least some push back. Too many without at least some of it, and both coach and GM should be replaced.

You can say this too: a player needs good coaching, not always overwhelmed by the opponent and therefore not too many teamattes who are a real mess themselves

would anyone do this trade probably get roasted for it: smaltz or AA Nashville's 1st for Simmonds seems he been on third line for phily no contract extension talks have been discussed to my knowledge. Hawks need a players that play with a edge to there game and willing to take the body get in the corners and boards and battle and win the puck at all cost. Need a big nasty winger or center and dman so hits harder to play against. Ryan reeves Zac Kassian Gudas type of player.

Indeed. The outpouring of support is heartwarming, the stories from the incident are heartwrenching.

Both the Hawks and Jets will be wearing these nameplates tonight and the two teams are each donating $25K.

This is a horrendous tragedy. It really hits home for anyone who lived that bus life with your teammates on the road. So extremely unfortunate and unimaginable. My brothers' teammate had a sibling on the team earlier this year but he got cut a couple months ago. A jarring and sad day in hockey.
