Well the good news is Columbus needs to play the Pens next with 2nd place on the line. Devils win out and that #3 is a very real possibility.

We've played Tampa well this year. Really strong team but they're willing to play up tempo hockey.

I'd be interested in seen regular season head-to-head records and if there is a correlation to playoff success against said team. I'm inclined to say that it would be low.

I think there is truth in thinking that certain teams line up better than others, but in general I think you'll be more successful in the long run playing against weaker competition.

Caps right now have some injuries that might make them an easier first round opponent. I'd be more afraid of Tampa because they have top to bottom more offensive threats than the Caps. I think their goaltending is similar although Vasy has been worse down the stretch.

Saw something on NHL network the other day, wish I could remember the exact stat but there is actually a pretty strong correlation between H2H regular season and the playoffs. I’ll see if I can dig the stat up.

Actually found it right away. The better team regular season head to head wins about 65% of the time.

oh wow 65% is actually a huge edge. Getting 1st wildcard to play Tampa looking better, although I'd be very happy with 3rd in conference and playing Pittsburgh.

I know we haven't had the best success against Washington this season and they wouldn't be my first choice matchup, but I think over 7 games our depth can expose them a bit.
- rmdevil313

we have depth? I still have a hard time placing how good this team is. Without Hall.. how good is this team? It has a ton of role players, an underachieving Grabner, 60-point forward Palmieri, and rookie Nico. Couple that with a weak defense and "good" goaltending.. yeesh. Am I being too negative?

No, this team has overachieved based on what it is. However, it's fine to be negative if you find good in the positives. A team like this being able to make the playoffs off of the back of Hall means that there is a lot of potential moving forward. You have a lot of young players developing who will get better. You will also improve more via trades/free agency.

That may be the worst goaltender interference call I’ve seen yet...no FLA players complaining, can’t challenge, and yet it gets reviewed by league... there is no way hat guys skate made luongos whole body move like that

if that point somehow ends up to matter to either us or philly missing fans should be livid

All goals in the last two minutes of the game are reviewed by the league. The interference call is terrible though.

Didn't they recently change the rule so that all goaltending interference calls are reviewed by Toronto now? If so then I guess everyone better get use to those horsepoop calls

Can’t wait until they decide to start enforcing face off violations again in the 1st round, while ignoring blatant interference and holding penalties. It will be par for NHL officiating

I think something internally about face-off violations was probably complained about because we've seen so few outside of preseason.

Tomorrow's headline "After scruffing up the surface the Devils wiped it with some wet Rags"

Also, can McLeod be called up from Bighamton for playoffs?

Also, Hall for MVP easily.

Also how fitting Elias to the rafters to hand over to new great Devil and record pts per season (real soon) in Hall.

Image Philly missing the playoffs...

Also I switched to Linux and love it.

Don't forget: with Washington, they have a playoffs debuff; they are never the same as they are in the reg season. They'll play like they're a team with 15 points less than they actually got.

Toronto is going to be a big test. They're a young, talented, hungry team.. much more talented than the Devils lol.. and with still one of the best coaches in the past 15 years. Devils just got a nice win over the pathetic Rangers and their queen. Thursday's game will be telling.

1-0-1(6-3 win, 1-0 OT loss) against them this season, so we've shown we can compete with them. Definitely should be a fun, back and fourth fast-paced game!

meh, if memory serves me, that big win was in the beginning of the season. I don't put much stock into that. They're a very good team.

Yeah not taking anything away from them, just saying we can compete with them. They are a very good team, so are we, and we tend to play up to the level of our opponents and play well against good teams!

Teams I would rather they face, Tampa, Pitt and maybe wash.

Teams I wouldn’t want them facing. Boston, Toronto, Columbus

I have to laugh at this post the rangers are an ahl team at best and the devils got a “nice win” first time in the playoffs in six years and already flapping your mouth you probably just jumped back on the bus. devil fans are just as pathetic as flyer fans jumping on an off the bus. after you get swept in the first round by whoever you play you can always go back to your standby “it’s ok we were a bubble team anyway”.......pathetic! but you gotta love it!
