I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that Q/Dineen are telling the Hawks to stand in place on the outside passing the puck around for 90 seconds before trying to force a cross ice backdoor pass to Kane. My ideal course of action would be to clean house completely. Fire the GM, Coaching Staff, and North American/Pro Scouting Staff (the Euro scouts have done a good job with guys like Panarin + Kampf + others).

Do the players run the PP and don't really listen to any coaches ' just pretend to? Going back a few coaches worth. It only exasperates the whole pp practice and strategies when Keith is on pp and there often over the years usually uninterested teamattes resisting net front duty.

Had nothing to do with the marvelous Keith shot? I loved those double net cartoon Keith unloading.

Who cares if Toews plays or not he's been finished since the first drop the puck.

I will be happy when he is retired. He cannot play a certain way, then i wish he would retire becsuse he is pulling down too much coin. He does deserve a payday for all he has done, but enough already. I hope his game regresses because a proud Toews would then retire. He just is holding us back. Useful player still - sure. Worth the coin in rebuild. No. We have seen the truth and it hurts. Now move on. Can you handle the truth.

Well shoot! So is this a suspected concussion?
- EnzoD

Obviously no further details, but I would expect so. According to Powers, Q just said he wasn't cleared. I don't know if they were taking Toews word for it yesterday, or if they just assumed.

8. Quinton Hughes, D, 5'10", 175 lbs.

The fourth defenseman after Dahlin, Boqvist, and Bouchard, Quinn Hughes is the first American dman we've covered.

There seems to be some controversy over Quinn Hughes' real height. The majority of scouting sites have him at 5'10", some have him at 5'9" while a few have him at 5'11". The most likely story is that he's 5'10". Anything less than this height would be cause for concern, but 5'10" is not unheard of. Yes, it likely means he won't exactly be Scott Stevens out there, but that doesn't mean his stick suddenly vanishes.

Like all of the D prospects we've covered so far, Hughes is known for his electrifying playmaker abilities. His skating is his strongest attribute, and since we know that this is the first thing that scouts look for, this sounds like we're off to a good start.

Hughes just finished his Freshman year at Michigan. Before that he played on the USND team. On the USND team, he posted 26 points in 26 games. Here are some comparisons to chew on; in the USNDT year prior to each player being drafted, here is what each player posted:
-Charlie McAvoy- 19 points in 23 gp
-Chad Krys- 26 in 35
-Noah Hanifin- 20 in 31
-Zach Werenski- 19 in 35

Is Hughes the next McAvoy/Werenski? Not going to say that. But this does make a nice comparison. Hughes has only gotten better since he joined Michigan, and has put on a little bit of weight.

Hughes is an offense-first defenseman, his defensive ability is clearly listed as a weakness on multiple reports. Some defensemen have the ability to be so dominant with the puck that it lifts their underlying stats out of the deep end. Hopefully Hughes can perform moves like this enough to compensate for his improvable defense: https://www.youtube.com/w..._continue=1&v=y1LruG9ph04

Hughes' second best attribute is his hands and passing ability. This strength could help translate him into a dman who's capable of making key outlet passes to alleviate a strong forecheck by the opposition.

Hughes' biggest weaknesses are his size and defensive ability. He isn't big enough to win many board battles or muscle guys away from the net. It's hard to imagine him going hard into the boards with the likes of a top line like Winnipeg, San Jose, or Anaheim. He can improve his D ability, and before you write him off entirely keep in mind that Erik Karlsson is a whopping one inch taller.

Best case scenario: Dan Boyle, Torey Krug
Worst case scenario: Derrick Pouliout , Jon Merrill
Plausible scenario: Ryan Ellis, Josh Morrissey

Three Stanley Cups - only 11 coaches have done that - he’s the only one of the 11 to win any in the hard-cap era.

Second in regular season wins, third in playoff wins.

I don’t remember the numbers, but with the Hawks, his playoff records in games 4-7 (especially 5-7) is outstanding - he makes the adjustments necessary to win series.

Now, you can say “he had great teams to coach” - there’s a definite skill to coaching superstars - teams don’t win Cups with bad coaches.

Then, you can say “I don’t think he’s a good coach for this team any more” - and I might agree with you - not the coach for a developing rebuilding squad....

But let’s not denigrate his history because we don’t like the present.

I can go along with most of your post. However, this team has played poorly for the past 3 seasons basically. Crawford stole so many wins last year that it was head-shaking. I agree that it's a challenge to coach even superstar players, but because these guys were all in their prime, they had their youth to bank on and come back in many games as well as series and the playoffs.

I often could not fathom how this team was playing with ZERO intensity until they got behind by 2 or 3 goals, or down by 2 or 3 games in the playoffs. After winning the CUP in 2010, they went down 0-3 to Vancouver and played listless hockey, then turned it on to tie the series 3-3 and should have won game 7. Same with the LA series down 3-1 in 2014. It seems obvious now that the players loved playing for Q because of his ease of practice and Country Club atmosphere ( we're told ). But now as the years have gone by, these same CORE players can't come from behind like then and maybe it's because of the lack of practice, hard training camps, and system changes that are now needed because of their aging.

I'm sure that if Q decides to move on, as I don't believe they will fire him, he will land in a spot with a ready to WIN now mode.... maybe Washington if they don't get to the finals again. We'll see.

As for Bowman...... I really don't see them having the guts to make that move, especially with Scotty still involved. They will give him every opportunity to make more moves this summer to attempt to put a last chance approach to surround the CORE (that he can't move) with some new blood to be a playoff contender. I don't agree with it but that's what I envision happening.
He has made so many bad decisions that it's frightening to think that he's going to be in control of the draft, trades, and free agent acquisitions once again.

I see one more year of Stan Bowman, unless a significant change occurs next season. If not, the season ticket base will vanish........ mine as well.

I'd bet that if Scott Stevens had input into personnell decisions, that he wouldn't have sub 180lb stick-only defenders in Oesterle, Forsling, or Gustafson on the roster.

That Captain needs to go a few months without anyone knocking him around. Let's see if he can heal whatever ails him.

That's the ticket!

The below quote is from Alpo's wiki page. Note the bold statement:

"Suhonen was appointed head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in May 2000[6] and was the first European born head coach in the National Hockey League since Johnny Gottselig. He would last less than a year as head coach of the Hawks, as he resigned next spring because of heart problems.[7] There was frequent criticism to Suhonen's coaching citing lack of discipline and a country club atmosphere among the players.[8]"

Agreed. I don't see the logic in him playing these last 3 games. Why risk him to anything more injury wise?

He is apparently ruled out for tomorrow. Toews and the medical staff, coaches know best if he should be playing or not, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If he is healthy enough and wants to play, he deserves to play. It is his career and he is captain of the team.

Are you keeping up with Panarin? 77 points in 79 games while Kane has only 74 points in 79 games. Panarin should be our leading scorer not Columbus'. Second worst trade in team history. Fire Bowjob now!

You and I both know that Panarin is a pass-first player, as Kane was earlier in his career. Only over the last few years has Kane looked to shoot more often.

Weak. Is that your opinion, that the Hawks couldn't use Panarin? . Second worst trade in team history........for now. Next year when Panarin gets a little help he'll likely hit 100 points and this will start to become the worst trade in team history.

The guy I feel bad for is Saad. Not his fault he was traded for a guy who is more than twice as productive as him. Just a pawn.
