Forgive me if this has already been asked, but why isn't Gustafsson a forward?

So funny, was just saying that to my friend. Pull a reverse Big Buf on him. His offensive chemistry with Kane is great and he has the speed and shot.

Good point. He has some good offensive instincts for sure.

And, honestly, how much would it really hurt the D?

what the hell gotta pick on the 1000 game guy on that 2nd goal...he was weak on the puck and the player and his lack of speed set that one up...

He struggles to defend his own shadow, but that pass to Jurco and the moves he made to get there, then the breakaway goal, wtf is he doing as a D? Can he play 2LW?

It was funny hearing that the jets player “got a step on Seabrook.” I guess you could say it was a step considering that he started about a dozen behind Seabs.

You mean he isn't a forward. Same with Oesterle. He and Oesterle have not played D all year. They are often the 2nd man up ice. They stay in the offensive zone too long. They float in the defensive zone. They rarely win corner battles.

From the last blog:

Thanks for the observations on Jokiharju. Hopefully what you saw defensively was an exception rather than the rule and on the balance he plays at least average defense with potential to improve which is more along the lines of what I've read and observed so far. But if what you observed is any indication for what's to come once he turns pro, then Jokiharju sounds like the next Gustafsson: great offensive instincts and capacity to produce on the PP but no attention to or care whatsoever for defense.

What bothers me about Gustafsson is that he is often the 2nd guy up the ice when the Hawks are rushing into the offensive zone (assuming he's not the puck carrier, then he's the 1st guy). A blueliner should never do that. At that point, Gustafsson just needs to be real with himself and train to become a winger. Defense is not even a priority. Same for Oesterle to some degree although I see more potential in 82 to improve defensively than 56.

Any defensive prospects who are ready to be called up to the big club need to be sound defensively first. Awesome if they have an offensive package that goes along with it.

Jokiharju is best to spend a good part of next season in Rockford and let him develop under Colliton until he proves he is ready to make the jump. Who knows, maybe he will impress in camp and make it almost a no brainer to not give him a spot in the lineup. But earning a spot should require the d-man placing a high priority on playing defense and being dedicated to constant refinement.

For Jokiharju on D could have been just the one game. Glad to hear others say they haven't really seen him do that in other games. Looked good on offense.

Rockford next year would be ideal if he is eligible. If they get him focused he should improve pretty quickly and might be ready late next season. Not sure going back to Portland would help him much. He would have a countryman in Rockford also (Tuulola).

This is either Q's fault or Bowman's fault. This never would have happened to Talon.

Eddie O saying what probably a lot of us are thinking. Hawks doing a good job of making sure the 3rd goalie doesn't have to face too many chances so far.

I think it was supposed to be 10 next game, so depends if you consider the 3rd goalie a Hawk.

Looks like his skate jammed on the post and he may have wrenched his knee? Definitely not the nut shot I think everyone (incl me) initially assumed it was.

Really too bad. He was doing great.

This team is showing a fire and effort we have not seen for most of the year. Win one for Seabs and the new guys spirit I guess.
