Honestly, I'd rather have a stud D man....I think we're pretty close at forward. I'd like another legit center, but otherwise I think they are good enough. The blueline (and goalie behind Crow) is where the dumpster is usually on fire.

I know the memo below may be somewhat upsetting to Stan, but by now i think he cannot ignore we need more toughness

MEMO: Stan Bowman
FROM; Seadon ticket holders, blog sites, national.media

Now that you seem to have acquired some nice offensive depth, we really urge you to trade some of it for some toughness and push back. The hockey networks are concerned that if they broadcast your team next season, the game will turn more into a viscous www wrestling match where your team is pummeled so badly and intimidated beyond belief. We want to remind you, we broadcast hockey, not wrestling

My guess it's more about seeing what Ejdsell can do. I wouldn't have any expectations for the kid this season, hopefully he just gets acclimated to the team and city so he sets himself up for a solid season next year.

I think you are right. I think his spot in the lineup is all about just giving him minutes with good players to see what you have. It might not last past the first period. The Hawks are experimenting with the lineup all over right now.

Anybody on Twitter reporting Toews' status this week? I'm in the Fantasy Hockey Playoffs and he is "Day-to-Day" so I cannot put him on IR and if he's out all week I'll be playing with one roster player....not good. ESPN player updates saying they may shut him down the rest of the season....

I posed my thoughts as that it just makes me pause and consider what pick i really want to make. Sometimes you just go with talent despite size. There have been far many more who due to size never made NHL or had varying level of success than the examples you present. But final call........on the clock i probably would cross my fingers for good luck and pick Hughes. The only other thing i can add is, if Bowman takes him then he better have both Samuelson and Martinsen around.

Samuelsson is still Coyotes prospect on loan to Rockford I believe.

IS it me or does Tony O look tiny in the net?

I think a lot of the players from the 70's and 80's look small. During the last lock-out I was so desperate for some hockey I started watching the vintage games that the NHL network was showing. The goalies and their gear looked tiny and the speed of the game seemed much slower then now. Fun stuff to watch though.

The alternative is to see how Toews game is next year
If it is the same or regresses, then the impasse likely due to a new CBA being contentious negotiating.......allows McDounough more time for spin control

More prospects will be farther developed. The key may well be if his game detetiorates, how much? A proud captain then might accept a comiance buyout and retire.

Same goes for Seabrook.

Keith could be ok for at least two more seasons but he must have better defense partner and a better team should chanhe his attitude. It would likely elevate his level of interest and cut down on some bone head decisions.

It appears as though the best bet for the Hawks to get value/offensive production from Toews is to play him with Kane + Saad 5v5. It really is quite sad to see the drastic fall from Elite to MEH in Toews' play. Did anyone watch the clinic that 30 yr old Sidney Crosby put on Philly yesterday?? GREAT player. Toews was once Great, too. #MakeToewsGreatAgain

I'm not sure which hashtag is more hopeless...

But this strategy worked for the Ducks with loading up on their "top" line for years... I'm not against it

Did you know that the best, tried and true most accurate preview AND veracity of The Entry Draft has always been from wiz? You know the site but i am sure these other lists are very good too.

I really think there's a big marketing opportunity to make t-shirts and hats that say - Make Toews Great Again

https://theathletic.com/2...ckhawks-top-25-prospects/

According to a Blackhawkup.com article today, they referenced a recent Powers article on the Atlantic where he ranks the Hawks top 25 prospects. I don't have the subscription but here are a few rankings:

3rd: Mitchell
7th: Krys
10th: Gilbert
11th: Hillman

It’s not you. The goalies wore about half the equipment they wear today. Would really like to see the equipment size reduced significantly. There’s no reason they can’t cut the size by a third and still make it protective of the goalies. Cut the size and scoring goes up and the game becomes more exciting.

Eklund (you choose how appropiate the next word)

suggests or intimates or believes

that E Karlsson will sign an 8 yr contract thenbe shipped off. The winning bid will be ___________ (insert team).

The Kings have a legit chance but are they really going to move Daughty. They could go Daughty Karlsson and fill in a lot of hungry AHL talent, which is similar to what the Penguins do. I have no idea who would surrender the best package. Not Chicago and the pricetag includes both our #1's? Plus Gus and Jokiharju. You never know. This is purely spitballing.

The speed of the game was excruciating! I, too, have watched some of the old games that feature some of the players I grew up watching. The 60s games almost look like they are in slow motion.

Interesting trade proposal. If a feasible trade could be had, who would you rather have: Karlsson, Carlson, or Doughty?

Drew Doughty, and it's not even close IMO. Erik Karlsson still sucks at playing actual defense. I like John Carlson a lot, but Doughty is probably the most complete Dman in the NHL since Keith has aged.

LOL That would first require the Hawks PR team to acknowledge that Toews has not been great for 3 years. Good luck with that!

Disagree, Karlsson has been a huge shot blocker, and can skate the puck out of trouble better than anyone.

People on the Kings board have long lamented the patented Doughty spin move, which half the time leads to a turnover.
Doughty is the best traditional defenseman in the league, but then there's Karlsson. He's just on another plane of hockey talent to me. Crosby, McDavid, Karlsson.... bunch of great players... Doughty... more great players.

I'm with you: Doughty hands down. Like you said, he's the best all around defenseman in the NHL. Plus he hits, and hits hard.

With that said, I would be elated if the Hawks got Karlsson or Carlson instead. Prefer the one with the K, though.

Just cut the size of the glove.

It used to be the size of a trapper's mitt - yes, 50 years ago, but....

They don't have to get THAT small, but I fail to see any protective value in the size it is now.

Reduce it to half the length and width - plenty of safety, plenty of ability to catch a puck (instead of having the glove do the catching - more goals scored.

Al was touting (using a race track term in his honor) this last year.

We don't always agree, but in this we do. Karlsson is really over-rated. I've seen enough games where he makes repeated blunders defensively.

Can someone please educate me? If this Sikura is all that, why did he fall to the 6th round? Someone recently showed a pie chart that depicted draft rounds and the percentage in the NHL . 6th round picks making it to the NHL were at best a long shot based on what that had shown.

Has he somehow blossomed into something more since he was drafted?

Thanks.

Your second question, yes. When they first drafted him he was not bad, now he has shown that he can be somewhat of an impact player offensively. He has gradually gone from 'hope this kid pans out after another year in college' to 'we have to sign him before he hits Hayes territory'.

I don't think he'll be the end all be all, but he could be a nice top 9 guy with upside.

Late riser. If he was drafted the last year or this he'd be a much higher pick...
