He’s still only 23 - one of those skaters who takes longer to develop, physically and in his mental approach to the game AND TRAINING (he apparently didn’t take off-season development as seriously as the Hawk brass would have liked).

I wish the Hawks could have given him more time....

MEH, Hawks don't need another soft, skilled, perimeter player. I wish the Hawks would've properly utilized him as an asset and acquired a power forward or defense prospect in return....

The difference between winning and losing can be so small, but I don't think anyone knows if they will improve, decline further or hold steady next season. I doubt they will be a top team, but they could definitely find themselves in the playoffs if the key guys are healthy.

Well said and reasonable. Are you sure you are on the right website?

Teravainen didn't help Chicago get past St. Louis, he wouldn't have helped against Nashville last year, and wouldn't make us a playoff team this year.

Successful team are like a chemical equation that needs to balanced. Having more TT types when the team is flush with them is not what this team needs, despite his skill.

Certainly possible, but I'm not sure Toews is going to have much of a bump next year. this is his 3rd season with production in the 50's and he's gonna be 30 in about a month.
- BINGO!

You do realize 8 of the top 20 scorers in the NHL are older than Toews.

I am not saying he will turn into a point a game player. He has never been. But he has value as a 60 to 70 point scorer. He was a 58 point scorer the last two years. So it is not a big jump. Leave him with Saad and put a shooter/sniper/scorer on his right wing and he is easily could be a 60 or 70 point scorer. With all else that he does that would be good enough.

Thank god he's found it now.

58 points with 10 games left in the year boys. Turbo's hitting the 60 mark.

...which is higher than I thought his ceiling was.

- BINGO!

I see the TT situation much like Toews. Playing with the right line mates matters.

But unlike Toews (and I have not checked the fancy stats) but I believe TT is not going up against the opponents top lines or checking lines and first team defenders like Toews is. Nor is he taking a lot of dzone faceoffs or playing on the 1st PK unit.

I said that Martinsen is a better version of Bouma the day he was acquired....Zadorov is a big dude and that check hurt. Big board impact there.

Couldn’t put my finger on my 29 looked weird in a Hawks’ uniform. Then I figured it out: he is too big!

That was the biggest hit of the year by one of the boys in red.

It is hard to measure a good D with weak goaltending. Crow would make a huge difference.

A healthy Crow and Raanta/Khudobin with a D of Carlson, Keith, Seabs, Rutta, Murphy, Forsling, Gus would make a decent back end with more offensive output.

Debrincat - AA - Kane - 80 goals if they stay together all year
Saad - Toews - Grabner - Toews scores 70 points. The line scores 80 goals.
Sharp- Smaltz - Hayden - 50 to 60 goals by the line.
Highmore - Kamp - Wingels - a solid 4th line. probably good for 30 goals

People think Sharp is finished. I disagree. He has 9 goals in 61 games playing less than 13 minutes per night. He has played with multiple different wingers in limited playing time. How many scorers/shooters/snipers do the hawks have in their system? Kane. Debrincat. Sharp. If the Hawks do not sign Sharp I hope he dos not retire. I hope he plays for Toronto, Florida, Edmonton next year and getting regular minutes and lights it up with some of their young offensive talent. He still has speed, a good shot, good hockey iq, some physicality, can play a 200 game.

I am not giving up on Forsberg and/or Berube. But they should start at the Rock and regain their confidence.

Probably cannot afford to add Carlson, Khudobin and Grabner. But with a bump in the cap and Hossa's contract it is not impossible.

Other than the three NBA mercenaries who "took their talents to South Beach", which difference-making free agents have signed with Florida teams since 2000?

You can probably come up with more than I can, but I doubt that it's a major rush to the sun.

The state has had 6 world champions since 2000 - Lightening once, Marlins, Bucs, three for the Heat - pretty good for only 6 teams in the state.

But high-tax California has had more - 13, I think - yes with more teams.

High-tax Illinois has had 5 - and with only 5 teams in the state.

Lots of reasons players choose to go places - certainly money is one - but with the state compacts smoothing out the state taxes to a certain extent - I don't think state tax burdens are one of the top reasons to sign.

- StLBravesFan

I do not disagree with your assessment, nor do I believe taxes a primary reason. I was speaking to the current state of taxes...face value.

Players likely chase opportunities to win. Lighting and surging Panthers make Florida a better possibility then in the past. If anyone has a chance to go to a Tampa game, do it, great hockey town...great fans and the players love Tampa area.

The No-Check Hawks are MIA tonight....29 (both teams) looks fun to watch. What's that guys story? Is he a legit player?

He played most of last season very effectively in his role with Colorado before being acquired by Montreal at the deadline. Zadorov had not returned...worst kind of check at full speed like 3 feet from the boards...that one hurts a lot with a large man like Martinsen

Does anyone else wish they'd retire that goal song and only use it in the playoffs from now on? Could be a while before we hear it again in that case.

This kind of reminds me of when David Koci's first game with the Hawks. Smallish Forwards (especially P.Kane) were skating with much more abandon

Hawks came to play. I miss them being a great team so fast they've fallen. If they sign/draft all 3 of John Carlson, John Moore, and Tzchuck they might make the playoffs next year.

Colorado on pace for 51 shots on goal....good as tonight is, it's not near what the Hawks used to be.
