if anybody thinks we are getting John Carlson he has 15 goals and 46 assists will be 28 when UFA hits. do you have any idea what he is going cost probably 7 years and 60 mil. would be the min. which is only 4 mil more then seabs contract total value.

Evander kane with 5 goals 5 assists thru 10 games + 5. my guess is San Jose tries to keep him.

Powers is reporting Victor Ejdsell is going to Rockford end of the week.

Toews is not a top defensive center. Certainly not this year. And Kane sees the 3rd highest QoC per 60 while his time on the ice when quality players is lower.

Patrick Kane is certainly the only player on the team living up to any expectations and still a consistent threat to score .95 ppg is still dope and he's only shooting 9.5%

Kane is also the best US born player in the league and other than Crosby, Malkin or McDavid the most exciting with the puck on his blade. Absolutely worth the 10.5 million per.

Well said Beef! We are typically on the same page in assessing player performance, but I must disagree with you on Connor Murphy. I see a guy that is Seabrook slow, but only 23 years old. His foot speed/quickness is AWFUL and puts him into very difficult situations defending off the rush or with quick puck movement in the cycle game. I think he is a 6D on a true NHL contender due to his skating.....

I'm not expecting any big name free agents this summer. I especially hope the Hawks stay away from E Kane.

I could totally see E Kane ending up in Vancouver, the Canucks desperately need a story to see their "fans".

They'll have the cap space with the Sedins contracts ending.
Too bad they threw so much $$ at Loui Erikkson a while ago

I wonder if the Sedins will re sign in Vancouver on smaller contracts

Well there we have it ladies and gentlemen.

We all knew the playoffs were not in reach, but now that they are officially out, I will be breaking down a few things in the coming weeks.

On the roadmap include:

* Rockford Push for Playoffs (ongoing)
* Prospect watch (ongoing)
* Off-season strategies and what I would do
* A look ahead to the next 3 years of Blackhawks hockey
* ... and a couple exclusive interviews that I've been saving

Anything specific you fine folks want me to cover?

Even though the Hawks are out, I've got a lot in the works but always have room for suggestions.

Cheers,
JL

- Justin Lowe

I do not know if these are good questions, but here they are:
Different power play strategies
- Because I know nothing about this
Different defensive strategies
- All I know is that Q's strategy defensively is a little difficult. So, good players (Daley) have a hard time adjusting from other teams

I am looking forward to the interviews!

Panarin is now scoring at over a 75 point pace which is better than last year when he played with Kane. Imagine if he actually had any help. IMO he would likely be among the league leaders. Makes sense because this is his third year in the league which is frequently the break out year. I predicted a breakout year for him around the time he was dumped for no reason. Of course the lesser lights around here who don't understand much about hockey thought sure he would just fold up and blow away. Panarin now has his team in THIRD PLACE and continues to make a complete jackass out of Bowman as I also predicted he would do. Bowman destroyed this team and must go.

Brandon Saad has 31! THIRTY ONE POINTS! and it was essentially a straight up swap Panarin for Saad!! I hate to encourage you but OMG what an atrociously bad trade. When you factor in the Swedish Sieve Forsberg....wow. Connor Murphy is also (frank)ing awful. He is a slug and cannot skate well enough to defend Top 6 NHL forwards effectively. The Panarin and Hjallmarsson trades SHOULD seal Stan Bowman's fate. However, I do not have faith in the MGMT to pull the plug on Bowman, ONLY because of who his father is...which is very wrong.

I was curious how the Sedins were doing this year.

Henrik only has 2 goals this year.... and we all thought Keith was struggling. 41 assists, but still that is "unfortunate".

Per a person who does closed captioning for NHL games, he made the comment ". . .what's done is done and I finally landed on a good team. . ." in his post-game. This, after the reporter asked him if he could imagine having a season like this away from Kane and being told Kane said that he misses him.

The player the Hawks draft with this first rounder has to be a franchise player.

Look at the Red Wings dynasty, from 97-02 they won three cups. That team won three cups with a host of elite caliber players: Yzerman, Hull, Shanahan, Lidstrom, Federov, Robataille, plus young Datsyuk for 02.

They had 6 years before they won another cup in 08. Gone were Yzerman, Hull, Shanahan, Federov, Robataille, and a few others.
They had Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Maltby, Draper, Chelios, Rafalski, and Osgood+Hasek. The key guy they added was Zetterberg through the draft. Chelios, Rafalski, Osgood, and Hasek had all played elsewhere.

The Hawks currently have a handful of players from the cup teams: Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Crawford, Saad, and Sharp.
They need to find their Franzen, Filpulla, Cleary, Hudler type of role players, but most importantly they need to draft their Zetterberg with this pick. He doesn't have to be a C/LW from Sweden, but he has to have a similar impact.

Sikura and Jokiharju aren't going to end up as good as Zetterberg, but maybe a kid like Zadina, Svechnikov, or Wahlstrom will.

This pick has to be a total hit. We can't afford another Kyle Beach. Let free agency and the draft/prospects fill out the role players, make this pick count. You might have to trade the Hartman late 1st for a higher pick, if it's worth it to get THE GUY, do it.

I agree with you. Just look at first rounders of other teams recently, namely Nathan McKinnon and Patrick Lainne. I would like to see them draft Tkaczuk but they seem to go after the smaller guys. We have enough of those size guys - need some size to go with skill. Defensemen in the pipeline from last years draft, so maybe skilled power forward in the cards ... hope so. Guy like that could help open things up for smaller players like DeBrinkat- Vinnie - Schmaltz - Sikura (hopefully)
Problem is ..... don't know if they will draft the right playe.

To be fair, nobody saw this coming. Saad was a monster when he left. Big, strong on the puck, great wheels. I for one was happy with the trade. Saad was what we needed. A big, fast winger who could go into the dirty areas. Saad's play is symptomatic of the problems with this entire team. Something is way wrong. Team chemistry? Coaching? Worn out core? (Prolly) Who knows. Bowman was just trying to reignite his Captain. Well now we know its not a line mate issue, its a Toews issue.

I would not. This isn't just him not being confident or struggling a little. This is full-blown meltdown. Even when they took the weight off his shoulders and gave it back to Ward Darling never really got better. He legitimately looks like he has no idea what he's doing out there anymore. Like he only knows where the puck is like 50% of the time.

I hope this does not affect his life off the ice because he has had those issues before.

Saad also has enough of a history of good play and good numbers - he wasn't a "one-hit wonder" like Panik - I'm guessing he comes back - he will be only 26 in October - doesn't look like he's carrying around any nagging / chronic injuries - my final grade on the Saad - Panarin trade isn't in yet.

And - as bad as he's looked - perhaps Forsberg figures it out too - he's only 25 - young for a goalie.

Not 31 points, I figured he'd wind up with around 50, but it was a bad trade at the time and, well, still is.

Got drummed out of here for saying so at that point, though.

If the Hawks were to propose this trade, would you take it?..

Darling (50% retained) and Kruger (50% retained) for

Gustafsson, Oesterle, the rights to Jurco and Duclair, and the Hawks 2019 7th round pick (from ANA)

And yes, I know it's a garbage for garbage trade, but do you still take it? Anyone else feel free to add your $0.02.

Nah.

I'm all for retaining salary and getting Darling another shot somewhere else, but Canes don't have the roster space to make a deal like that.

Plus our new owner seems to be fine with just burying Kruger's money/cap hit in the minor leagues anyway.
