Justin Lowe: Standard Weekend
It was a very standard weekend: good hockey, terrible hockey, beers and a lot of LOLs.

That was my weekend at my rec hockey tournament, but maybe similar to the Blackhawks (minus the LOLs).

Yesterday's game was better, but overall the Blackhawks' weekend was more of what we're used to seeing… inconsistent.

Hayden is the best thing the Hawks have going right now. Hope he's a big part of the future plans.

they were close to the 5th overall spot over the weekend, then they won so probably back in the 8 spot or whatever.

Hoping we draft some size and grit up and down the draft.

I’m in the place where I am happy either way - W or L - as long as they play the right way, give me effort. Know they don’t have the pieces to win a lot. My theory is Ws are good for the kids and the rest of the team and Ls are good for the draft and still good for the team if they are playing good hockey. The tankathon NHL draft lottery simulator is getting a workout from me too.

Watched both GAMES this weekend, Question to my fellow board/ Hawk fans
Taking out Duncan Keith how would you rate the D? 1 thru 7? based on who is with big club right now, Just was wondering what other people's opinion is?
Thanks

Great write-up Justin. Boston (and LA for that matter) provides some glimmer of hope for the future. One thing I'll add is that Boston's resurgence only came after an organizational reboot, whereby the GM in the habit of overpaying vets and squandering assets (sound familiar?) was replaced, and 6 months later the new guy brought in his own coach to replace the longtime one who was no longer getting much out of the old, seemingly used up core. Does Rocky have the sense to do the same?

Could have done without the 3rd period meltdown in the first game, but do wish they played Boston more often. It was entertaining on a whole. I mean...There were goals, controversial dirt baggery, special teams cashing in, the Bruins giving Kane a rough ride story-line and some decent tempo for some lines.

I thought Highmore has looked like a guy who works hard and is smart, but still not experienced at the NHL level. I noticed a few times where he was defensively responsible and a couple more where he wanted to be, but was caught off guard it seemed.

Boston showed us one thing. You dont need HUGE money in your D to have an effective D unit. They played a tight/physical style. They also keep their crease clear.

Yes, we need that here. Q and Stan both need new jobs.

Yes I would like to see the team playing well while losing. The gains made the previous day with the Oilers winning and 3 others managing a point each were cancelled with our 2 points from this game.
I was also disappointed that we did not get to see the team's response to Marchand's dirty play the previous game as he was conveniently unable to play.
On a side note, anyone complaining about Eddie O having a pro-Hawk bias, needs to listen to that nauseating bias spewing out of Mike Milbury's mouth.

The whole team needs to look at the video of this game for the type of shots that resulted in goals scored. Kane and Chara goals on wrist shots and Seabrook on a half slap.
I am seeing too many of our guys wildly slapping shots all over the place while other teams sneak smart soft ones through legs that find the back of our net.

Eddie O to a fault does not show any Chicago Bias when he does National games. You can add Jack Edwards in the Mike Milbury league, vocal vomit.

Very good question. If based on overall D, then maybe:

Keith
Seabrook (which is scary and shows the decline of the D)
Murphy
Ruuta
Gus
Oesterle
Would put Forsling maybe around 4-5 if up

If you move one of the third pair callibre dmen, then Franson could be utilized on PP with sheltered small TOI.

Some real good banter from Eddie with Pierre yesterday. Just having some fun dogging him.

For the record, I like Pierre--I'm probably one of the hockey fans that likes him.

Anyways....there was a play where the BOS player missed a completely open net.

Pierre: Boy, talk about a missed opportunity. I could have even buried that one.
Eddie: What's that?
Pierre: I said that even I could have put that one in the back of the net.
Eddie (long pause): ...ehhhhh...
Pierre: I think I could have.
Eddie: ...EEEHHHHHHHH....

Then later in the game, that dude from BOS goes down awkwardly.

Pierre: Not to be too graphic, but they may want to check the area down there and make sure there's no cuts or damage. I suffered an injury like that playing a long time ago.
Eddi: Oh yeah? When and where was that, Pierre?
Pierre: (never responds)

Franson signed a one year deal with us. I really doubt that he is back next year.

You missed out from the penguins-flyers game last Wednesday. Pierre and some Eagles dude made for some golden and yet painfully excruciating moments

I also wish that the Hawks would play a more physical style on defense. Afterall, many of the goals scored on the Hawks are usually closer to the net. If you don't want to play a physical style overall, at least have the defensemen knock them out of there or use their bodies to box out. You can blame the lack of physicality on the back end to Quenville, who insists on the stick check crap all the time and oponent is standing unchecked 20 feet behind the defenseman. It would not be a bad idea to pair up and offensive puck mover with solid and physical defenseman
