I'm shocked to discover that everyone thought Hartman was this un-tradable physical presence who had potential of being a 20-30 goal scorer.
I think the trade was a great move. Hartman hasn't been the same dude for a couple years now.
He was a ghost most of last year and this year.

for those upset about moving Hartman, have to also consider how much his value will continue to diminish and how badly his development would have been handicapped by continuing to operate under Quenneville's tantrums with him. A player the head coach doesnt like or refuses to give significant minutes, roles, or linemates essentially becomes useless at the end of the day. - Stan_Bowman

Just heard he was "difficult" at times and then the talk surfaced this past week about he and Q not getting along.

Thanks buddy. Keep the info coming Sir |

Too bad The Hawks don't play the Preds again this year, I'd love to see Hartman drill A couple of guys like DeBrincat or Schmaltz or?? And then skate by the bench laughing at Q while his team does nothing. - wonthecup10
"Yeah, like, it would be cool if he came back and totally messed up these guys that did him wrong and then, like, skated by the bench and smiled a Q and was like,'look at what you're missing out on now, boys!' Yeah...that'd really show 'em!" |

It'll be interesting to see what he does in Nashville. Was this year just a sophomore slump? Was it his relationship with Q? Or maybe he has reached his ceiling? I wish him well. He seems like a bottom six player though, and the team has other options there. Another first round pick, even a late one, sounds good for a deep draft. - matt_ahrens
It will be interesting to see how Hartman performs for Nashville in the playoffs. He was a rookie last year in the playoffs against Nashville and he was pretty much the worst Hawks forward in that series. Not much went well that series and he was inexperienced, but curious to see how he does. |

It takes 2 to tango. Got to have a partner, can't just make trades to make trades. The CBJ offer for him was insulting. Are you suggesting we should have agreed to that pile of garbage? - John McDonough
The market for a player is what the market is. Can’t force it better. AA has limited skill, is slow, is overpaid. He is not going to get more attractive after the season. His biggest drawbacks are his yearly salary and term. Get an offer better than the Columbus one but I think if you can get rid of entire contact that is the key. Those who thought AA was going to get a big haul back were optimistic I think. Don’t get me wrong I’d love Stan to get a haul I just don’t think AA rated that high by other teams. Get what you can and re-set.

Makes you wonder if that Twitter "like" about Panik earlier this year wasn't part of a bigger issue. Both are now gone.

We can agree that Hartman got kicked all over the place line up wise. To me, I put him on the 3/4 line and play the energy/hammer/cycle game. Guy can hit and can score at times. Dumb penalties? Yes. I just think he was not utilized correctly. Oh well. We have the big Swede now. |

I hate to see Hartman go but Stan got a really solid return. Plus I don't think you can fully judge this trade in isolation. - DarthKane
What’s solid about it? They got a 1st that’s basically a 2nd, a giant 22 year old Swede who isn’t even good enough To play in the Swedish Elite League and has never even sniffed North American Hockey. Plus they exchanged a 5th for a 4th, which is basically a wash, and not worth talking about.
To sum up, they got a guy who will likely never play a single meaningful game in NA and a late 1st rounder for a young, versatile, gritty, NHL caliber player.
Time for stan and Q to fade into the sunset if you ask me. |

On the Swede we got:
He led the Swedish Allvenskan in points (57) during the 2016-17 season in 50 games with Bofors IK, and was named the league's MVP. He also had four goals and three assists in 10 playoff games.
Ejdsell continued his development in the Swedish Hockey League, where he has 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) in 44 games with HV71 this season. - JRoenick97
Does anyone know where he was rated in terms of prospects in the Nashville system ?
So far I haven't seen him on a list of their top prospects |

Excellent trade for Hartman. SB gets props.
Excellent rejection of CBJ offer for AA. Brassard's return is the appropriate comp for AAs value. Wait for that value. |

I think it's a fair deal, but again I wouldn't judge the deal in isolation. How does Ejdsell pan out? Does Stan use the extra first round pick to move up. Like I said, I would have preferred to keep Hartman but this isn't a bad deal. |

Hayden can take Hartman's role. Get Hayden back up and get him on one of the PP units. I would love a 2 man at the net set up with 40 and 15 parked in front of the crease. - z1990z
There are some aspects of Hayden's game that I like over Hartman. He might not have the same scrappy under the skin agitator game however. Hayden did seem a bit more solid on his skates (he is a fair bit larger I think) and Q trusted him to kill penalties. |

This move isn't for the Swede, this is for the picks and 2 to 4 year build. |

Or, they got a first and a prospect for a guy who scored 8 goals this year playing all top 9 spots, then was demoted to the 4th line. I can spin it too. |

what I rememberer reading about him is that he was confused about this role. If the Preds give him some things to focus on, he might do well. |

he can play...and the preds were willing to look pass this year for a guy who could be a nice fit with them...

It could be that the Hawks scouts see Ejdsell as a potential AA replacement as EnzoD has speculated earlier in the thread. Maybe AA still on the move? I think in the end, if the Hawks don't feel Hartman is a long term part of the team, then more draft picks is better in terms of rebuilding faster.
Edit: I shouldn't really say replacement, but speculated he is similar to AA. Don't mean to imply extra meaning on EnzoD's post that he didn't intend. |
