NO . . . NO . . . NO . . . we don't need AA !! He's a nice complimentary player, and other than Panarin, that's all we have right now. Plus at, his age, I don't want to be carrying that contract 3 more years.

If you want Jenner, or Anderson, or Murray, I'd be open to taking Saad back (another complimentary, but younger, player). He faired pretty well playing in C-bus.
Although we really need a top-2 center that can drive the play. We've been riding the Bread man all year, and I fear it's wearing thin with him.

You had one and didn't know it. He's in Vegas now.

Once March rolls around, Breadman gets tired and longs for the comforts of Russia.

AA: net guy...80% of his goals and assists from within 6 feet of the net, however not a great skater and will turn 30 at the end of may, also injury prone; cap friendly with 3 years left and NMC

need to replace him with some size

I like the idea of moving Crow to LTIR. Then you trade someone like Rutta, Bouma for a high salaried UFA to be and a 2nd or 3rd round pick. This would allow the playoff team trading the high salaried player to have enough cap room to make another deal for a player that they feel they need for the playoffs.

Though diff position I'd like to think John Hayden is that guy.

What happened with Wennberg? Wasn't he supposed to be the one feeding Panarin? I was hoping Wennberg would have a huge season. He's capable of being an assist machine.
- AEL_Fox

Wennberg is a good center, but pretty much a (much) younger AA. So bringing on AA would give CBJ center depth, but similar players. Why trade for something we already have ?? Plus we also have DuBois @ #1 center, and Dubinsky at #3 center. None of them are really dynamic in driving play. Hopefully DuBois becomes that in a couple of years, we'll see.

If the hawks trade AA to Columbus the player I would want coming back in the deal is Gabriel Carlsson ( Picked 29th overall in 2015) . Do not take Murray. Carlsson is a guy with size, speed and can read the play. He would turn out to be a top 4 dmen. Murray is injury prone.
- Rayipsd

This type of deal would make a lot more sense for us than the Jenner /Murray proposals. Throw in a pick and done deal.
Jenner and Murray are pending RFA's making just under $3M each. They both have arbitration rights. We are not in a position to take on these kinds of contracts.

Not that I care but wtf happened to the Blues? They are soon to be on the outside looking in....

Right I was stunned when I checked the standings this morning....I find it hard to believe they are serious contenders and that the window is just about closed for them...

If rumors are to be believed (yea I doubt most of them honestly) it is suggested that Columbus showed interest in AA, so someone in your program must like him.

Sure they could put CC on LTIR and bring in another expensive contract in a favourable trade, but then what do they do when it comes time to remove CC from LTIR to start next season? They already have an LTIR issue with Hossa's contract, that cap space isn't being used because its a year to year thing.
- RickJ

the only advantage i see to this is flexibility for another big move at the draft and free agency..he is not taking on another big contract with out a plan for another move...

if they LTIR craw that would open up enough room for 6 plus mildo player...not many guys on CBJ fit that profile; none with a expiring contract...

Would Columbus be willing to include Carlsson in a deal for AA?

So Hawks LTIR Crawford and then take on some other teams large cap hit player? How does that help us?? Taking on dead space for picks or????

Yes, because we should be in a position now to hang up if the deal does not suit our needs. It is time now to take advantage of the other side as they have done to us in the past. There are 29 other teams to deal with.

That I don't know.

I thought Jenner was a more realistic return based on his season in CBJ. It seems he may need a change of scenery and he's that character type player the Hawks would love.

I really do not like Oesterle as a top pairing dman.
#1 his offense is way overrated. He has 3 goals and 8 assists in 25 games. Rutta has 6 goals and 13 assists in 27 games.
#2 he is not physical, does not take the body, does not block shots, and does not clear our crease.
#3 he heads up ice too soon and then lingers there or floats there way too long.
He is like a dman that does not like playing defense.
# 4 he roams all over the defensive zone.

We really need a right handed top pairing dman, that can play physical, clear the crease, make the outlet pass, that can let Keith wheel a little more. (Like Seabs from 3 years ago.) Once you do that the other dmen can slot down appropriately.

In the meantime why not let Rutta and Keith play in the top pairing. The 2nd pairing could be Seabs and Oesterle (playing on his natural left side). The 3rd pairing could be Murphy (playing on his natural right side) with Gus, Dahlstrom or Forsling. Let Rutta and Keith, and Seabs and Murphy (yes his off side, but Hammer used to play both sides during the course of a game too) plays as pairs on the PK.

I agree with a lot of this, but the Defense is just not very good. Mostly bottom pairing guys. They gave up another 43 shots on goal last night. I think the Hawks need to find a LEGIT top 4, then your idea of slotting guys down into the proper spots may work. Keith is really the only top 4 we have left anymore. All the others are bottom paring guys at best.

That's not to say 1 may not have "potential" to be a Top 4 D-man one day, but right now they are not that.
