That's disappointing...

Putin's fascists get the gold.

Merkel is also an bumhole. LOL

I was rooting for the Germans too

Oh well

Heres hoping the Hawks shed some salary and take a leap forward heading into next season.

Well we should all embrace the tank because a top 3 pick would give this team who is having a rough year a huge leg up.
- lilmookie630

Drouin wasthe third overall pick. Would having Drouin on this team we are watching save them and turn them into contender?
I think it will have several years of tanking and a lot of Drouin type picks them to rise again with some luck, otherwise team will be mediocre in perpetuity. Not counting on anything next few years from this team. At least when Detroit went into mediocrity they fought hard every game and lost due lack of talent, not for lack of trying, while this team does not care anymore. Q for Tort swap to light some fire and get some waived NMC clauses to allow different hard working team atmosphere. I want to cheer for this team again when they give their best even when they lose the games, and find myself wishing for loss so some meaningful changes could be made. Right now expect another lipstick on a pig.

Seguing into Crawford, I heard that he may be placed on the LTIR to make room for a team to send over a player with a large cap hit. That would allow said team to add a big piece on Monday.

Had not thought of this. Hawks will take your dead weight on an expiring contract for a 3rd or a prospect so you have space to make a big move. Love to see this happen.

I'm also really liking that Cat-Schmaltz-Duclair line. It's chemistry like this that is exciting to see as the Hawks aim to be better next year.

Indeed. A chance at the NHL level to see what a future core looks like together. Throw a couple more players into that mix like Hayden to get even more data on future fits.

However, if Jenner or Murray are the type of (realistic) pieces coming, that could be a win for Stan.

Murray is interesting but you don't wanna miss if you're moving AA. Wonder if you hear anything from management types what their thoughts are on Murray?

With the likes of Wingles, Bouma, Franson, Rutta available the Hawks will have a Treasure Trove of 7th round and future considerations coming their way this deadline

First thing Hawks should do is hire who ever manages Pittsburg cap . Think Pittsburgh has put themselves as favorite to win the cup this year ( hope not)
JR is the best GM out there.

They need a solid run of the young players (those that remain after Monday) - no more Bouma, no more Sharp, Jurko ok (let’s give him time for evaluation), Wingels ok (they seem to want him back next year - no objection from this amateur scout).

And it would be nice if the youngsters can play well enough to learn how to win (a skill as important as the other on-ice skills, and one that some never learn.

Give 12-8-91 the rest of the year together to really see what they can become, even if the screw up occasionally. Bring Forsling and Hayden back up IF they’ve progrsssed enough as Hogs - if not, let them continue where teaching is as important as winning.

A high draft pick would be great - im more interested in who they have now (including, I hope, Sikura).

This all day long. It's been over a decade that the Hawks have had a rare chance at giving NHL ice time to "possibilities" to see what might or might not work or fit together.

IMO this last stretch of the season is as important as any in the last 10 yrs. Do not waste this very rare chance of managing NHL ice time.

Valid points.

My guess is the Hawks are very worried about CC long term - head trauma injuries are potentially career over things for goaltenders. (Mike Richter is one who had to retire from the Rangers due to concussion issues). Carey Price is now out with a concussion, Steve Mason same thing; Fleury has missed time more than once in the last couple of years.

- RickJ

Think the Hawks see this trend and stop treating the position like an after thought at the draft and have the Glass' and Burube's of the world filling out the organIzational depth chart?.......... Goalie injuries and concussions are here to stay, it's not new and IMO the Hawks are late to realize this pinning all their hopes on a 33 yr old Crawford. Yes they unearthed a Raanta and Darling but IMO don't treat goalie depth with enough concern at the draft.

Which is why I wondered if Carter Hart is looked at by the Hawks in the Philly rumors.

Unchartered waters but the saving grace for a Hawks fan is StanBowPops&McD are well schooled in being on the other end getting screwed. Think they learned from that and took notes?

Or will emotions of the old boys club prevent him from making legit hockey trades to help us get back on track next year??

Gold was there for the taking by Germany. They were ahead by 1 with couple minutes left, AOR given penalty which basically runs rest of the time in the game. Germany couldn’t have been in a better position. Needed to play keep-away but didn’t - allowed AOR to pull goalie and tie game. AOR wins in OT on PP after reckless penalty.

Just some examples of team's we could help out by taking a high priced UFA who isn't doing much compared to their salary (allowing them to upgrade via trade)

Dallas - Kari Lehtonen - 5.9 Million- They could want to use that cap space for something else and he is UFA end of year.

Toronto - Leo Komarov - 3 Million - He isn't doing much this season, maybe the Leafs want cap space to upgrade.

Winnipeg - Toby Enström - 5.75 Million - playing 5 D minutes for nearly 6 million.

Calgary - Matt Stajan - 3.125 Million - Playing 4th line and has 7 points, maybe they see an opportunity to load up.

I'm sure there are other deals out there, but maybe there is a team wanting to take on Karlsson (with Bobby Ryan) from Ottawa and need to unload a piece Ottawa doesn't want to pay for. I'm sure there could be something don't on an expiring contract.

- breadbag

Nice work here, Bread. Enstrom is a nice player IMO not counting his hit. Being stuck behind Buff, Trouba, Meyers and Morrisey isn't an indictment on your ability.

Even if it were for 25 games would love to see a Komarov a Hawk but Babcock likes this player. Plus I'd like to see the youngins get the ice time the remainder of the season but still like your line of thought on taking an expiring contract for a pick and or prospect.

Oh Man - you could not be more right. It is a freakin’ nightmare to watch Oesterle play. Oesterle translated means D-Man who refuses to touch opposing players and loses puck constantly. It is not the fault of fans that Oesterle is simply not good enough. Why the team won’t simply deal with this is incomprehensible.
- Z3Hawk

Hey Z sounds like a Rundblad alert...I don't think Osterle is that bad...but...yikes.
The D-corps and backup goalies Bowman's assembled for this season have been less than stellar...

I'd hang onto Saad another year and see if he can rebound. Although someone mentioned how much Kane and Hossa effected their respected lines. Lot of folks were bagging on Hossa the last couple seasons well - how bad do they miss #81 now. Personally I just miss watching him play defense an absolute demon.

I'd also hang onto Rutta. I had a conversation with Wiz over on The-Rink.com and he made some interesting comments regarding the Forsling-Rutta combo that the Hawks were playing earlier in the season. I thought that pair played pretty well during the early part of the season and Q was giving them more time. Rutta got hurt and Forsling was sent to the Rock...we'll see here after the deadline if there's any chance that pair gets another shot.

If the hawks trade AA to Columbus the player I would want coming back in the deal is Gabriel Carlsson ( Picked 29th overall in 2015) . Do not take Murray. Carlsson is a guy with size, speed and can read the play. He would turn out to be a top 4 dmen. Murray is injury prone.
- Rayipsd

I saw this name and for the life of me can't remember seeing him play even though I watch the WJC and the Jackets closely. ... You like what you see?

I like my D prospects from Dman rich Sveeden to have played in their WJC's and this kid has played in 3 of them along with plenty of other international action.

Wennberg is a good center, but pretty much a (much) younger AA. So bringing on AA would give CBJ center depth, but similar players. Why trade for something we already have ?? Plus we also have DuBois @ #1 center, and Dubinsky at #3 center. None of them are really dynamic in driving play. Hopefully DuBois becomes that in a couple of years, we'll see.
- birdie03

I don't see Wennberg and AA as similar players. Wennberg is a much more dynamic player, better skater, quicker who can skate with top 6 guys better. Probably develop into a legit #2 centerman.

Tank Watch (Cont.)

If you look at the rest of the schedule, it looks good. The only non playoff teams we face are the Canucks and Sabers (once each). Otherwise all tough games (Winnipeg, Boston, etc) and 2 lesser teams in Colorado and Carolina who may still be in contention for playoff spots.
The next set of games are on the road against the 3 California teams. Should keep our losing streak alive.

It will be especially fun watching tank teams go against each other after the TDL with each team preferring not to win. Especially since we will not be involved in many of those.
Looking good!

Oesterle has to go. Hossa was unrelenting on D. Impossible to not miss his intensity - taught by example.

Rutta and Forsling will only be successful if they can add some physicality to their game. Have to be harder on the puck and this involves taking the body. A D-Man who doesn’t win puck battles is not an effective D-Man.

Hmm. Ok explain this. Remember what the Hawk Cap issues were at that time. Even if Q was in love with Vermy, where was the money to resign him? There was silence because they didn't have any money. He was already making like $3.5M when the Hawks got him and he wasn't giving a team he just came to a hometown discount.

Honestly I'm not sure wth any of what you posted has to do with anything. It's really not all that hard to get. The Hawks needed center depth for a playoff run. They traded for a center. Said center scored almost 20% of GWG's during the Cup run. Move worked. End of story. Move on. Oh yeah and they gave up Klas (frank)ing Dhalbeck and a 30 overall pick. If you don't trade that every (frank)ing day of the week and twice on Sunday to cement a Cup win...then I (no one) can help you...sorry got a little worked up there.

- HawkintheD

And Vermette was, is, elite at the dot with a career FO percentage of 57%. A perfect add for the Hawks' run.
