How many dumb penalties behind the play is that idiot #38 going to take this season? Q should have left him in the dressing room after the 2nd period. I don't know what his hockey IQ is but my guess is 1 above lettuce. Stupid player.

But (a) he can score; (2) he plays a reasonably heavy game on a team that doesn’t play very heave; (iii) he draws penalties as well as takes them; (D) if he’s sitting on the bench, they’re playing a man short and screwing up the lines and matchups more than usual.

Ryan Hartman was indeed benched for his penalty behind the play that killed a 2-on-1 for the Blackhawks and led to a PPG for the Blue Jackets. Hartman was on an exercise bike in the hallway after the game.

Sit Oesterle. Let Rutta play with Keith. See how that works.
Seabs and Dahlstrom.
Murphy and Gus.

I would rather watch Sharp than Jurco any game.

Saad - Toews - Wingels (if not traded)
Sharp - AA - Kane
Debrincat - Schmaltz - Hino
DuClair - Kampf - Hartman

Hartman deserved to be benched, but I probably would have just done that for one period (unless I was pretty sure he was going to be traded).

I am ok with trading Hartman if they get a high pick, quality Dman, or 3C in return. But I have no problem holding onto him either. He is only 23 and makes some really stupid plays and takes some bad penalties. But anyone who watches him can also see the potential.

I'll take the pick(s)...Hawks have enough bottom 6 bodies, and finding more is seldom a problem.

I agree with all of that. He threw the hardest bodycheck of the season on Silfvberg in the Anaheim game. That's how you want him to play.

Except there are just too many instances of foolish, away from the play penalties that change games to the negative. Any NHL coach would be exasperated with those dumb, selfish fouls.

Ok - then sit him for a couple of shifts, put him in the press box next game - but don’t force your team to play with only 11 forwards resulting in screwed up lines and match-ups.

Although if the pick is 3rd round or worse the chance of the pick turning into more than a bottom 6 player or 3rd pairing is pretty slim. (just going on percentages). And even then it would most likely be 3 years before he makes his NHL debut.

The problem I have is there is very selective accountability on this team- Hartman's penalty was an extremely stupid and undisciplined one- no debating that. Not 20 seconds later, during the course of the resulting PK, your highest paid player, 10+ year veteran, Captain of the team decides to try to dance the dman at the blueline with time and space to clear the puck and it ends up in the back of the net. Both bonehead plays: first guy sits 45 minutes, other one doesn't miss a shift.

looking at the standings barring another horrid losing streak it would appear the hawks will finish between 7-10 from the bottom...

We're just disagreeing on the severity and form of the penance. The playoffs are out of reach, what difference does jumbled lines really make? Q isn't sitting Dcat, Schmaltz, Vinnie, Oesterler or Gustaffson when they make a terrible pass or play. But he's had enough of the Hartman on ice not using his brain stupidity. Shaw did stupid stuff too, but he did many more positive things. Which HArtman doesn't do.

Do you get the feeling that Bowman won't be doing much at this tdl.We here all these teams, philly,Winnipeg ,Columbas,Ottawa looking at some of the Hawks players, but maybe upstairs is telling Bowman not to do anything. There going to wait for the off season when they can Q and Bowman, and let the new GM and coach Decide what to do.

according to justin, stanbow has been given the green light to move boldly this TDL but usually big trades don't happen until the draft/FA period...

If you can get a young and damn close to NHL ready Top 4 Dman for Anisimov you gotta do it IMO.

so back to the trade ruminations: who is gone by the end of the weekend...more importantly what comes back

Maybe Wingels, Bouma, a minor leaguer or two. Draft picks back...and not high ones. Don't get your hopes up. It will be quiet for us.

If you are thinking that's even remotely possible, the thin air in Denver has had an adverse effect on you Enzo.

As it should be. We do not need anyone for a playoff push.
No one wants our bad contracts and moving our cost controlled young players would be a mistake.

I don’t get the Pacioretty talk. He is older and in clear decline. He should be an untouchable for Montreal and isn’t.
