Justin Lowe: UPDATE: Trade Deadline Stuff
Hey gang – wanted to pop in with a new blog that I promised you guys yesterday. It was a crazy work/life/rumour day, so I posted my update on the message boards instead.

If you missed it, here it is:

So the "weirdness" thing has to do with Bowman and Crawford.

Thanks. If Crow does go on LTIR, will they have to disclose the injury?

Stan really needs to take advantage of the Eastern teams...with NJ and Pitt already making moves the other teams like CBJ and Philly have to do something to counter the moves...heck even CAR is right in the mix for a playoff spot...

I don't think so, however, they've already come out and said it's vertigo-like symptoms. So I'm sure that would be the message.

Keep in mind guys that this Crawford to LTIR move would have to line up perfectly for both teams. It wouldn't be easy to pull off, but it's something that Stan and Co. is considering if need be.

I just don't see a AA deal being possible. Term he has left on his contract many playoff teams won't be able to afford him unless we take on salary from a bad contract. If we do hope it's only for the rest of this season. If we can pry a top 4 dman in any trade that would be great.

How would this be more difficult than what the Pens pulled off yesterday? Crawford's condition is real and he has been out for 2 months already. I think an LTIR move would be quite legitimat.

Why would any team adding for deep playoff run return a top 4 dman?
That type of trade is an off season move

Sure they could put CC on LTIR and bring in another expensive contract in a favourable trade, but then what do they do when it comes time to remove CC from LTIR to start next season? They already have an LTIR issue with Hossa's contract, that cap space isn't being used because its a year to year thing.

I really like the Dcat, Schmaltz, and Duclair line. I think the Hawks should put line 1 and line 2 like this and play out the season

20 19 88 - Line 1
12 8 91 - Line 2

Use the third and fourth lines with a mixture of players left after the trade and bring some Rockford boys up for a tryout.

Those above two lines could really get some chemistry going and carry it over into next year.

If Anisimov moves to the Jackets with any additional assets to make it work, I would covet Jenner to fill 3C position, Anderson to play bottom-6 wing, and/or Murray to play top-4 D (but only if he has a clean bill of health and there is confidence that he isn't injury prone). I'd go to war with a bottom-6 with the likes of Hayden, Hinostroza, Hartman (if he's still around), Wingels, Kampf, and either/or Jenner/Anderson.

Jenner is capable of being a 20/20 player while playing a physical game. Anderson puts up 3rd line stats with 17 goals the past two seasons and could approach 35+ points by year's end. His offensive numbers are what I would expect of Hayden. Definite plus that they both are big and play big.

Great write-up Justin.

While this season has been a disappointment I think the team is poised for an exciting finish on and off the ice.

1. This could be a very exciting trade deadline that excellerates the retool
2. The youngsters, hopefully including Sikura, will be given the opportunity to play a big role on the team
3. While the playoffs may be out of the question the Hawks appear to be capable to putting together a solid run
4. Berube...his story is still unfolding and will be interesting

I don't like the idea of trading AA ,unless that deal is huge overpayment .We will be screaming for a 2nd line center again ..

I think with the cap projected to go up around 80M next year Stan will have an opportunity to move Hossa to Ottawa or Arizona in the off season to help them reach the cap floor and not have to pay Hossa any money.

We don't need a solid run at all ,just play out the stretch .What we need is a solid start next year .. And a nice draft position ..

Hear, hear! Right now, they're just wasting Kane's talents with a bunch of interchangeable parts.

Maybe they are certain they are moving another big salary this TDL or this summer. With the cap going up, the math may not be as challenging.

Also wonder if not going the LTIR route because they are concerned this injury is possibly career-ending and, as such, puts them in a "back against the wall" trade negotiating position again. Having that possibility/certainty out there for trade partners and fans isn't what they'd want right now.

Good point about the cap. The thing about Hossa is that he has to remain on LTIR and if the NHL ever disallowed his eligibility one year he has to promise not to retire. Or those massive recapture penalties revert to Chicago.

The expensive contract they acquire would likely be an expiring one. CC's LTIR would only apply for the rest of this season.

I assume it would be an expiring large contract coming back or someone that they don't mind using some cap space on, but also depends on the Hawks plans as a whole. The cap will go up and Panarin $$$ comes off the books, so there are some choices. Maybe possibly they will trade Hossa's rights to a team needing to hit the new cap floor next season.

They need a solid run of the young players (those that remain after Monday) - no more Bouma, no more Sharp, Jurko ok (let’s give him time for evaluation), Wingels ok (they seem to want him back next year - no objection from this amateur scout).

And it would be nice if the youngsters can play well enough to learn how to win (a skill as important as the other on-ice skills, and one that some never learn.

Give 12-8-91 the rest of the year together to really see what they can become, even if the screw up occasionally. Bring Forsling and Hayden back up IF they’ve progrsssed enough as Hogs - if not, let them continue where teaching is as important as winning.

A high draft pick would be great - im more interested in who they have now (including, I hope, Sikura).

But doesn’t his hit (and wouldn’t Crawford’s) have to be back on day one of next season at least for that one day - I don’t think they can just load up this summer without having to deal with those cap hits at some point.
