why the need for Tokarski? Is the injury to Stolarz longer than expected. Big two points tonight in Nashville

The Flyers don't "need" Tokarski, nor did they feel they "needed" him, I'm sure. But, for the price of a contract slot that they will presumably get back at the end of the season, they get the luxury of having a guy they can slide into the backup role should Neuvirth or Elliot go down with a minor injury, rather than having Lyon simply sit on the bench not playing.

Assuming a long term injury to Elliot.. then I imagine that Lyon comes up to share duties with Neuvirth who hasnt exactly proven he can be the #1 for extended stretches (injury prone). If it were Neuvy who were hurt for a mid to long term... I'm not sure which way the Flyers would go.. with Tokarski or Lyon getting the call.

Of course, this is all conjecture and as always, I reserve the right to be wrong.

Stolarz may miss the bulk (or all) of the season. Tokarski is a possible band-aid.

If Morin had been playing regularly, which would have resulted in Corey Perry fracturing his everything, it would be much more lively.

But given that Travis Bustheim has been playing instead...

If he is good when he comes back, he will have a future. It is a slight setback developmentally, but isn't career ending. Puts the Flyers in a slightly tougher position next year (he wont be waiver exempt) but they can probably get him through anyway.

Even still, if he moves on to another organization, it is what it is. Tough to develop 4 goalies at once when they are this close in their development.

Oh well, enjoy the first class travel and treatment for a couple more days Sam. I feel bad for the first forward who comes down his side in his first AHL game this season.

All kidding aside, I hope they pair him with Myers. That could be a great future NHL pairing for the Flyers.

During the offseason, the Predators signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Alexei Emelin.

Semantics, but he was traded to the Preds from VGK for a 2019 3rd. One of the trades McPhee was actually able to pull off.

The real winner in that minor league goalie carousel is Leland Irving.

He's going to avoid a harsh Northeastern winter and play hockey in San Diego.

TBH I was selfishly looking forward to watching more of Sanheim in Allentown, but Morin/Myers will be fun to watch. I am hoping to go to the 11/5 game against the Marlies (another exciting team). Isles ruined my chances of watching Barzal on the Sound Tigers

Yup, at least one will likely be gone after this season anyway due to the numbers game. I'm hoping to see Hart and Sandstrom at LHV next season and, hopefully, Lyon or Stolarz can earn the backup spot for 18-19. If so, with only one year left on his deal, I think Neuvirth can be traded. I'd hang on to the more durable Elliott to be the guy to pair with a youngster. If all that happens, either Lyon or Stolarz is probably moving on to another organization next season.
