Adam Proteau: Pre-season picks: Atlantic Division The final instalment of Adam Proteau's predictions for the upcoming NHL season feature a focus on the Atlantic Division – arguably the tightest division in the league, and one that could have major movement this year.

Love your work Adam but get ready for the salt.

Sabres fans will gripe they're too low.

Every non Leaf fan will gripe about the Leafs.

Sens fans....well all two of them suck and they're always salty and defensive.

Good write up, I agree with pretty much all of the predictions. One thing you forgot however was that the sens also lost marc Methot andI believe this may hurt them even more this upcoming season

While I choose to believe the senators can surprise, I realize that is me putting my hopes before facts.

I believe that this division has a lot depending on variables, I believe any of the top 4 from your list have a shot at finishing first, I also believe they have a shot at being in the basement.

I'm hoping for a continuation of the senators team we saw in the playoffs, but thats a tall order.

Here is to some good hockey come october!

i think Sabres will be better, and are better, than most give them credit for tbh. Hopefully wont be better than my team.

you have montreal way to high, defence is poor and drouin and chucky will be in claudes doghouse most of the year.

Once again I'm proven right about nobody caring or noticing the Sens.

Meh, Sens are a threat to nobody. The stars aligned incredibly for them this season, and they almost made the final. That's the ceiling for this team. They're much more likely to regress than ever come close to repeating that

As long as we have Karlsson we will be competitive in the east.

that should last forever.

i agree, a team whose hopes rely on a single guy cant possibly have anything go wrong.

I don't think all of our hopes rely on him. We have a pretty good defense who can put up points and we have two goaltenders who can both win us some games. Our forward group is not great but it's not awful so I don't see why we won't be in the mix next year.

Yea...they're pretty mediocre. I agree. They'll be in the mix next year but beyond that they'll likely start falling off. And by "in the mix" I'm thinking more wild card. Alot of teams have more youth and skill that will soon turn into wins next year...in 2 years? Guess we'll see.

I mean it's not like our cupboards are bare. We have Chabot and white both coming up and some of our better forwards like Turris and Hoffman are not that old. We always have drafted well and as long as that keeps up I think we can stay competitive in the east. We haven't had a super team but we've always stayed competitive which is nice for Sens fans.

Sure, I don't disagree with what you're saying. This could be a somewhat competitive team in the regular season. And if things go extremely well (a la last year), they could even win a round or two in the playoffs. But this team, as currently constructed, is not a threat to win a cup. Not even close. Much more likely to go backwards, and finish 10th or 11th in the east

We've had the cup favourite team in Ottawa before and it got us nothing, Those teams had no heart. I'll take this team anyday after the heart they have showed. For a team not constructed to win the cup we came pretty close last season, anything can happen that's why we tune in year after year.

lots of teams have good young players. sens are at the lower end of that scale. eventually the standings will reflect this.
