I would give him a 7 or 8 year deal, however I think it will be 5x5.65

Just get it done. I don't think there's any chance it's a long term deal, probably 2-3 years between 4-4.5 mil.

Yeah obviously you go as cheap as possible with having those RFAs next season.

Yup. Vesey, Miller, Hayes and Skjei. 2 of them are probably looking at decent bucks.

Also gonna need some space to bring Kovy in to replace Nash.

I'm extending Nash for two years at 4 mill if the team is in contention this year.

(frank) it sign him and Tatar and win the cup. My boy Tatar deserves a cup and so does Hank.

I know the opposition to it, but this isn't giving Staal or Girardi 6+ years at 28 years old. This is giving a 24 year old that if he figures it out would be very good 2C with 1C potential a long term deal with his prime years ahead of him, not behind him. Just don't give him a NTC/NMC.

1 year is ridiculous and shouldn't even be an option. Gives him all the cards as a UFA, especially if he has a solid year.

No reason to lock players up for more than 5 years unless they are truly elite. He is currently at what is generally considered peak age for Fs. He could see a sharp decline around age 28 and you want to lock him up to age 30-31.

I would say guys start declining depending on the player around 30, 28 is still considered prime years.

A 1 year deal would be silly but:

A player may only declare himself to be an unrestricted free agent if he is over the age of 27 or has played in the league for a minimum of 7 years.

I believe his 9 games in 2011-12 do not count in this regard. A 2 year deal gets him to UFA quickest if I understand things correctly.
