Thanks Carol, I guess I'm a bit surprised Bure would be number 4, but that guy could sure electrify any game he played in.

Brock Boeser is a really interesting piece for the future, If he scores 20 goals next season I will feel a lot better about the next 10 years!

Another great article Carol, I have to say it's impressive to see you still producing a quality and interesting blog every day, when most hockey people have shut down for the summer. Huzzah!

Slightly biased but if I had to rearrange the list I would probably have him higher. Their list has too much emphasis on team success IMO. Malkin is great, but I'd have him 5th behind Fedorov, Bure, OV and Datsyuk

I really have to disagree, Malkin is #2 behind Federov at least in my opinion. I really like Malkins game (winning 3 cups doesn't hurt either, as well as multiple awards).

Malkin> OV and Bure (as much as I like both guys), Malkin has it all, cups, scoring titles. It was criminal he wasn't in the top 100.

Re: bluegrass

I've been listening to both Greensky Bluegrass & The Yonder Mountain String Band recently. The Warren Haynes and Railroad Earth album Ashes & Dust is brilliant.
Having said that, I listen to most genres with the exception of hip-hop/rap and Nickleback. Everything from Belle & Sebastian to The Black Angels. Top 40 country also makes me projectile vomit.

Its that time of the summer when there's just nothing hockey related going on. Its like that awkward moment in a chat when both people look away and go "soooo, ahhhhh, cool."

I agree he shouldve been in the top 100, but while he has a more complete game I think him being a dominant star has lacked consistency. He has had some amazing years and stretches of being unstoppable, but not always. The guys I have ahead of him I feel were dominant for longer stretches. OV will go down as one of the games best goal scorers, Bure already is. Datsyuk and Fedorov were considered the best for their complete games on both ends. Not that Malkin is a slouch at any component, I feel like his reign of dominance has been shorter than the others

I DJed the Psychedelic Furs show last night at the Commodore. It was awesome!

First show of this leg of the tour—they sounded good and for an older new wave band, they still looked the part without being caricatures. And they have a sax player!

I was a fan back in the day. My first time seeing them live and they exceeded my expectations.

Yeah I get the slightly biased comment, it all depends on the criteria used to rate them, I can remember the red army team in the 70's that blew my mind, Balderis, Fetisov, Kharlamov, Krutov, Larionov, Makarov, and on and on.

But Bure in his short stint was phenomenal, but I'd have a few other Russians ahead, not Malkin, but Datsyuk for sure, Tretiak number one.

The irony of this should have Vantals head exploding by the time he's home for Vegas...

Just when he thinks we're getting rid of the Twins, two more Swedes show up at the front door.

My wife wanted to see that show! Last show at the Commodore for us was either Black Mountain or the Drive-By Truckers.

The best show I ever saw there was the first time The Pogues played there and Joe Strummer filled in as their guitar player!!!

Have you listened to Carolina Chocolate Drops? They play black, traditional string music. Rhiannon Giddens is singer, banjo player. She plays on The Lost River Tapes, a compilation of unreleased Dylan songs with Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford and others.

One new (non-top 40) country-ish guy worth listening to is Sam Outlaw, from L.A.

Thanks for those names above

the NHL has an 'alternate schedule' ready just in case there's a last-minute decision to send players to the Olympics after all.

Of course they do! The NHL isn't stupid enough to boycott the Olympics.

Actually yes they are, if Bettman doesn't get the deal he wants, and soon, there will be no NHL participation.

But I'm also not stupid enough to count out participation at this time, show me the money Bettman.

Yes. We are left with speculation. So to liven up the boring times. Going back to your post on previous thread. The one themed future will be better on line ups. Below would hit the trifecta of turnarounds for excitement in 2018.

Kane Turris Gagner - young vets in prime years with speed skill grit
Sven Bo BB - ready for role and pushing for more under buffer
Granlund Sutter Goldy - Balance of playmaking, speed, shooters, twoway
Dahlen EP JV - developed against men enter as secondary scoring & speed
Burmistrov - versatile all 3 forward positions and Russian connection for Tree

Tree Tanev - Dynamite pair. Shot suppression RHD unleashes LHD beast
OJ Guddy - Smooth all around LHD with thumping leader RHD simple game
Dahlin Stecher - Generational type LHD breaks in with PP role & RHD chemistry
Hutton Chatfield - Rotate in as LHD & RHD options as skating puck movers

MDZ gains value for TDL pick return. Sedins retire. Allows for Edler & LE to agree to waive. They are traded for picks before entry draft. Tree improves his game. He sees KHL issues. He is offered better contract and role. Canucks finally win lotto. UFA homers signed with cap space to lead youth movement of turnaround with development of prospects. Guadette & MacEwen next to push into line up.
