They may not be able to depending on which arbitration rules/standards they use. It is true that the arbitrator doesn't have to pick one of the two submission and can pick what they think is fair but, depending on the rules, they may have to pick within the two submissions.

Congratulations to you and Dan!,thanks for the share! And theirs no talk on long term, for Payako ? You would think that they'd like to have him locked in at 5.2to 5.5?×5/6 years it's in line with comparable dman, with age, points? Lindholm Reilly, Risto,I actually like his games ability a bit more than those guys, He is a real gem at 86th pick!

thinking 4.5 for 5 yrs would be a good contract for both him and the blues. he may want less time for a bigger payday later on(years 4 and 5) so 3 yr deal at 3.75 would work too

I started the charity thing two years ago with the playoffs, continued it to the division winner and playoffs this year. Hope to do it again next year and make it bigger. I like charity intertwining with hockey. Lots of good, charitable people in hockey that I have met. A recent example - a local hockey group (think between organized pickup and actual league) held a one day hockey event recently that raised almost 30k for the wife and kids of a member who died tragically.

Here were my thoughts a while back including some comparables - http://www.hockeybuzz.com...t_id=86065&blogger_id=229
My guess was around $5.4 million for 5 years. I still think the longer term deal gets done this week. Maybe it has to go to $5.6 million AAV to get done. Maybe it's $5.833 million AAV for 6 years.

It will take at least $5 to get the 5 years imho.

If the Blues are signing him to 5+ years, it will likely be 5.5 to 6.5 IMO depending on the length.

5.5 x 5 years
5.75 x 6 years
6 x 7 years
6.5 x 8 years

I'm ok with all of these. Come on Doug! Let's make a long term deal.

I hope not. I would rather pay a little more and get a few years of UFA from him.

I hope you are right

we don't need another Shatty situation

7 years at 6-6.5 would be good for me

maybe 8 years 52 Million

Yeah this is what I think will happen. Imagine if we would signed Shatty to a contract like this.. probably would have Drouin or Hall right now

24 hours to go will a deal be struck or will the Blues and Parayko go through the hearing which could ultimately sour the relationship

Preds blogger McCann is still drunk after the Preds made the finals. He assumes the Blues got worse on paper and only have a 50/50 shot at making the play offs and are only an injury away from failing. oh and our blue line is only "decent.".

Indeed. Although I think he is in for a rough ride. He seems to be penciled in on the first pairing, and if (when) he struggles with that I think he is going to be their Eric Brewer.

Except they didn't trade a HOF for him. Maybe if they start marketing him as the next Brian Leetch or something.

True, but they bought out Girardi to afford signing him, meaning functionally he's has some responsibility for over 9m of cap hit. And the stuff I've read definitely seems to be propping him up as a top end defender.
