Yzerman can trade you Hedman, and Kucherov and then come back next year as GM

Here is what I will say.

Holland:
Was spectacular at keeping the Wings a cup contender and sliding in under the radar picks for many years. He is certainly, still a respected personality among the GMs, and I think he is trying to ice a competitive team. BUT his is using dinosaur logic, which make you a bubble team, so any wrinkles can derail that plan. By way of contracts, I respect the logic when I look at Nielsen, Abbey, Ericsson, Howard and Zs contracts... individually you can afford one or two but he just gave out too many. I personally, think the best move at this point is that the Wings after his contract is done, quietly move him upstairs and thank him for all of the great years, but time to move on. Thanks Ken.

Blashill:
I think his heart is in the right place, and is trying to find the balance of new identity, but respecting the room with vets. However, I think the move I would make here is put him in an assistant role and get a more experienced Head Coach, that will let the kids play ALOT, let them make mistakes and teach them. There was a lot of question marks about his decision making at times, which is valid.I figure he gets one more season then gonzo.

Head Coaches never get demoted to assistants, they get fired. Personnel get pushed up stairs all the time, not booted to the basement.
Making Blashill an assistant, would be a ridiculous reward for his two seasons of failure.
Ken Holland bases his reasoning for keeping his faith in Blashill, is his resume.
Dave Lewis had two seasons to prove his stuff, he failed and was fired.
Blashill has had two miserable seasons and Holland is keeping him around. Plain and simple, Holland is simply keeping Blashill for next season's scapegoat.
Holland is covering Holland's ass.

When next December's Christmas break rolls around, the Detroit Red Wings will once again be lagging out of the playoff hunt. Chasing stronger teams, previous non-playoff teams like Tampa, NYI, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Carolina.

But make no mistake, the sightseeing Honeymoon of the Little Caesar's Arena will be wearing off and the empty seats will multiply. Jeff Blashill will hang from his leash no matter what length it is.

The Detroit Red Wings will never be a winning successful team with Jeff Blashill. Sure Blashill's resume says he won in the AHL. The AHL is full of wannabe NHL coaches that are simply not of NHL calibre. Blashill needs to go back to the AHL, because he is clearly over his head in the NHL.

Holland should have been on a short leash since about 2013, Blashill should be a foregone conclusion after this season, that he is not competent enough to coach at the NHL level.

Oh Mr. I...how we miss you when you were healthy and involved in day to day operations

“Why do you go from the 19th of October to the 12th of January without a road power play goal?” Holland wondered. “From the 18th of February up until I week ago I know we had the ninth best power play in the National Hockey League. Why is that?

“That three months affected our place in the standings.”

Quite possibly Holland knows better, and this is just spin. But it's quotes like these that terrify me.

Here is what seems to be Ken's logic:

1. First three and a half months of season, PP was garbage.
2. Last seven weeks of season, PP was above average.
3. Because our team was okay at scoring PP goals for a little while, it follows that they should be able to do it over 82 games.
4. Therefore, it must be the garbage performance at the start of the season that was the aberration.

You'd think Ken couldn't possibly be so ignorant of how statistical performance naturally varies over time, and that you can't just cherry pick the hot streaks in your analysis.

But at the same time, look at how many players he's grossly overpaid in the last half decade. If I didn't know better, it really seems like he bases his evaluations of his players and his team by only considering what they're capable of when they're playing their very best, in the best circumstances, in the middle of a hot streak, rather than what they can realistically sustain as a long-term average.

Very good observation indeed. I too wish Mr IIitch was still here, I think things would be a lot different if he were.

I truly wonder if Chris I. can run this team without his brilliant Dad.

The Red Wings won't be chasing anyone in the standings next season. They'll be tanking for Svechnikov #2 if they know what's good for them.

Your takes are pure horse s^&*. No coach, maybe not even Babcock, would be a winner with this average roster. Some elite forwards + middling-at-best defense + inconsistent goaltending + injuries = No Playoffs.

In a couple years with some in-house and drafted additions:

Holmstrom/Turgeon (Not as difference makers, but depth.)
Svechnikov #1
Hronek
Valimaki
Svechnikov #2

They could be a great team. Could be.

Tatar - A. Svech - E. Svech
Nyquist - Larkin - Mantha
AA - Z - Abdelkader
Turgeon - Helm - #96.2

Looks like a hell of a forward group to me. The defense is tougher to gauge.

Valimaki - Hronek
55/65 - Jensen
Ouellet - Sproul

Could be worse. Everyone would also have to pan-out...

I just really expect/hope them to win a maximum of 30 games next season.
