James Tanner: Coyotes Update: Off Season Still On-Going The Coyotes legal challenge to make the Playoffs on a technicality has been dismissed by a lower court this morning. No appeal is expected.

Curious to see what you think about the whole Chayka-Buffalo connection going on right now. I think it was a tweet by Custance? Not necessarily saying that Chayka is going to be with the Sabres, but it's interesting that his name is popping up. Is his deal up with the Yotes?

He's only been the GM for, what, a year? I haven't even heard this. I wouldn't be too surprised though if Buffalo wanted to go into an analytics direction, nor would I be surprised if Chayka was open to not being the only GM who's coach is his boss.

Then again, who knows? I'd be pretty surprised if the Coyotes let him go. Then again, again, the Coyotes are almost beyond surprising me at this point.

There is a team out there that's worse at being surprising. The New York Islanders. They're so surprising that nothing they do is a surprise. It's pathetically expected.

I would actually be interested to see what Chayka could do if freed from Tippett and with the green light to spend to the cap.

Made me chuckle with the opener.

Any chance the Votes don't finish bottom 3 next year?

It would be interesting but I think if you are Buffalo you see what the kid can do for a couple years before you take a gamble on him. Still a pretty big ?

The Coyotes need to go the scorched earth approach, a good starting point would be their resident hockeybuzz blogger.

A good chance, I'd say. There's a lot of work to do, but the foundation is there to take a huge step. Playoffs probably unlikely, but I think they can be really competitive out of the gate just by adding Strome and Keller.

I'd be ok with Hanzal coming back, but not on the terms I think he might get. If it's 2-3 years @ 3-4 million per, that would be fine. I'd slot him on the 3rd/4th line with Vrbata and maybe Crouse. Strome should be the 2C/3C along with Dvorak. Before that, we need to trade for Duchene or maybe Stepan. Stepan is likely to be available due to the Expansion draft. Lines could shake out like this:

Domi-Dvorak-DuClair
Keller-Duchene/Stepan-Perlini
Vrbata-Hanzal-Crouse
Fischer-Strome-Doan/UFA

Dump Richardson somehow (Vegas) and then you can upgrade on the Strome line. Now for the D, I'd trade MN #1 pick, a 3rd and Merkely/Prospect to Anaheim for either Fowler or Vatanan. Then you can have:

OEL-Fowler/Vatanan
Chychrun-Golisoski
DeAngelo-Schenn/Murphy

I just wish they would have not given Murph the contract they did so they'll either have to bury him in AHL or retain salary to trade him.

You have 4 solid lines that can score (at various levels) and a D that is mobile and can move the puck. What say you?

Murphy is a right handed puck mover with talent. He's never lived up to it, but I think the contract is movable if they want.

That's weird. I personally like it when people give me mix tapes. Nothing better than new music. You are taking pride in a really strange thing.

Hard to find any local coverage that isn't about the D-Bags or the Cardinals.

They never talk about Cardinals in Jersey.
