If the rumours of extensions for Chevy and Maurice are true;

Does anyone believe that if Maurice and/or Chevy sign contract extensions this summer they would be any less on the Hot Seat to start the year next year? I Dont!so my question then is this, why give them extensions?

It's called the "Golden Handshake". Even with extensions, there is no guarantee they will be around. With extensions at least they will continue to get paid when they are eventually fired.

Hi Peter,

What do you think about James Reimer? Do you think he would fit well in the Jets crease?

Sign Darling and Brendan Smith.
Expose Myers
Cut Thorburn, Tanev, Pavelec, Chairot, Stuart, and Melchiori.
Fire every coach we have.
Let the skill guys/kids take over.

There, I made us a contender.

Expose Myers...I am sooo glad you are not the GM. You clearly have no understanding of how valuable top 4 right sided defense men are nor do you understand how it takes a solid year to recover from hip surgery. I think taking a year off is going to pay huge dividends for Myers career going forward.

Lawless is convinced the Jets will sign Elliot, I dont like this.

We can not afford to lose any of our top 5 D. We have a lot depth up front and have proven already we can score goals. I know there are hard core Perrault, Armia, Lowry, Dano fans out there and you can make argumets for them all (as we've read many times on here ) in Jet land but the truth is we can way more aford to lose a forward than a D.

Lawless doesn't know his ass from his elbow. If the Jets sign Elliot, next year will be Chevy's last as the Jets' GM.

Myers isn't really top 4. He's stuck as the #5 on the worst defensive team in the league. He isn't as good at anything as Trouba or Byfuglien, Toby is miles ahead defensively, and JoMo will only continue to widen the gap between himself (the #4, for now) and Myers.
Myers is also at risk of never playing again, highly overpriced for a bottom pairing guy (with too much term left), and lacks the versatility to carry a bad partner or switch sides.

There is some truth here with what his argument is about Myers. While I think the loss of Myers for the season was a big reason we didn't make the playoffs, the thing that has worried me is he is clearly a right side dman . He is clearly a guy who can log big minutes as he has proven in the past. He would be a waste of talent in a third paring. Buff is here to stay so therefore either Trouba (possible contract problems) or Myers ( can't play right side) needs to be traded ( wince...groan) . I'd think a straight up swap for an equally talented left side dman with a team that is over-weigted on the left side would work.

Guys like Nick Leddy, Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin, or maybe Keith Yandle would fit the bill. I think Nick Leddy would be the perfect guy. Trouba for Leddy would work straight up . Might need to throw in a package to do it with Myers.

Are you sure you are not talking about Byfuglien?

A question for Jets fans: would Perlini plus the 22nd overall pick this year be enough to pry Trouba? Perlini scored nearly 40 goals between the NHL/AHL this year as a rookie, is big, fast and defensively savvy. Combined with the fact that the Jets need to do something with their defense before the expansion draft, is this realistic?

If not, what would be your counter?

its not realistic. It makes the Jets worse today and they need to win now, they have the pieces, the rebuild is done. We are just missing more solid goaltending and possibly a couple perimiter players. Perlini looks to be a very good prospect but the Jets are loaded with forward prospects. With Laine and Ehlers already in place and Connor and Raslovik coming right behind them we are not short on young forwards, if anything we have a few we can move ( Petan, Dano, Copp, ) Trouba is our best D, I'm not convinced yet he wants to be here long term but it will take more than that to get him. The Jets should be protecting 4 forwards and 4 D in the expansion. We can afford to lose a good forward with the depth we have at that postion far more than we can afford to lose a D.

as for a counter, it will seem like way too much for you but the cost of a top pairing D in the NHL right now is huge and the Jets would have to be made an offer they would at least have to really think about. My guess, counter would be Chychrun and Domi. Jets do not need draft picks.

It's tempting, but I think the Canes are pursuing a big fish up front. Probably packaging some folks.
