Anyone remember what the timetables were for Maatta and Sheary?

Daley is 6 weeks, which is April 6, leaving 2 games remaining in the season. Does he play in either of those games if he is ready? Or do the Pens keep him out so they can use his LTIR cap space for the remainder of the season?

If none of those 3 are on LTIR throughout the rest of the season then the Pens are essentially out of cap space with the Hainsey deal.

Maatta and Daley are out until the playoffs. Sheary will be back mid March

Yeesh... the price tag to retain half his salary seemed to bump that up from a 4th or 3rd to our second... but we did need another NHL ready body.

Do you think Quincey is better then Hainsey ? I know he makes less and has been respectable defensively. I believe his issue in Detroit was he just wasn't worth the coin they were paying him, but he was and seems to still be fairly serviceable. I ask because I wouldn't mind an un biased opinion on what Quincey might fetch. I don't think the Pens didn't target him because of the division since the Canes are obviously in the same division as well. Are they very similar or does one stand above the other ?

I love the available cap space if Maatta and Daley both remain out until the playoffs, but neither player really fills me with confidence that they can step right back into the lineup without a game or two to get back up to game speed. Especially if they both get put back in as a pair, could be a disaster in a playoff game. Although if Hainsey plays well enough, then one of Maatta and Daley will more than likely be the healthy scratch, unless they roll 7 D.

LTIR isn't as magical as you think.

When the Pens are already over the cap using Dupuis' LTIR, then yes, it is dollar for dollar.

Penguins typically don't put their players on LTIR until they need the space since they can use it retroactively.

I'm not sold that either player doesn't play before the playoffs in which case their LTIR is inconsequential. Which is why I said that if they were out until the playoffs then the cap space is nice.

That's good news, I was thinking that his original timetable was longer. Sounds like he is either ahead of schedule or I am remembering incorrectly on his original timetable.

Kulikov would be subtraction by addition so a 2nd would be overpayment.

That's hard to say without knowing what the cost for Smith is, if you're looking at it in a vacuum then yes getting Smith would be the better move from a player standpoint but I would think that Smith would cost more, especially with 50% salary retention.

The bigger and better news is Schultz being back at practice. With no restrictions!

Why would they want both? With Shultz apparently close to returning there would only be 1 open spot on the right side and both Franson & Kulikov play RD. Adding Franson to be the bottom pairing RD behind Letang & Shultz would have been fine but acquiring both makes almost no sense.
