Mornin' John...thanks for the quick update.

Still hoping for an upgrade at wing and maybe a lower line center...
Palat/Boyle...?

This has been a long week without the Hawks playing...thankfully only a couple of days until the Oil comes to town.

It'll be interesting to see how the Hawks respond after the layoff especially as they were starting to play better and find a groove here. Seems like teams coming off the break are having rough restarts.

Hope Stan has a move or two coming here in the next few days.

RumorBreak is legit. If I were the Leafs, I'd pass.

Hey DK,

Yep could take the Hawks a game or just a period or two to get back up to full speed, better do it quick cuz Edmonton is the first opponent.

Bieksa isn't much of an upgrade over Polak. Stoner is only good for hurting people.

This one is laughable, even Stanbo could put something better together for the Leafs.

JJ, you've tossed Duchene's name into the Hawks target acquisition bucket. What sort of assets would it take to get a deal like that done? Top rookie, top prospect and a 1st? Or would there be more NHL faces going the other way?

Center prospect. Was drafted by Ducks 30th overall.

Duchene would be a fantastic add. I am curious to see how the captain's play will adjust if his LW is Matt Duchene. Palat is also just a solid player and plays smart. I wonder if a Palat addition will help Kempny? Considering they are both Czech.

Just crossing my fingers that we can protect Hartman, Fortin, and Kempny.

The East standings are something else. They finally have a couple teams dropping out of the race. Looks like Carolina and Detroit are done. Would the Hawks have any interest in Hainsey? He's cheap, experienced, big, and better than Roszival.

Thanks for the early morning Rastaman reference.

His most stunning song.

Although - I'm not sure how much hockey there was in Trenchtown....

Also - I'd really hate to part with DeBrinkat - he's looking like he could be fun to watch (I know, I know he clearly needs to lay on some muscle and we haven't seen him in the NHL yet but still...)

Latta has almost three NHL seasons where he played a physical style so I also believed that this move was one based on having another heavy option if needed against an opposing physical team, but I don't think any team views Himes as "Chris Stewrart lite"

Sam Steel - Centerman leading the WHL in scoring. Has the same number of points (100) as DeBrincat has in the OHL, only Steel is more of an assist guy whereas DeBrincat is a natural sniper. Plus Steel isn't a munchkin like DeBrincat.

Here's my profile from tha draft with my opinion...the kid had a really mediocre draft year, but teams knew that as he got stronger and fills out a bit, he had high end skill potential.
He was looked at early as a potential first rounder.

Owner of the Senators said in an interview about the trade deadline - "Have you heard what they are asking in return for Duchene? They want 2 of our kids (White and Chabot) that are going to be stars. That's not happening".

Somebody may pony up big for Duchene in the next 2 weeks, but the Avs could also wind up sitting on him until the summer.

Trade Deadline is more and more of a Bust every year. Teams don't want rental retreads so its 3rd and 4th Liners that are moved and TSN and SporNet sit and talk all day.

Hawks
Polak would be a good depth move and if it were me I would throw all the Draft picks necessary to land Duchene but only if they have the money to resign him in the off season.

Agreed , so much gets done early and then the TSN guys and the supplementary stable of tweeters and callers try working to find stuff out, and absolutely it becomes a bore fest with James Duthfie attempting to be funny.

There will be fewer trades than ever, because of the cap crunch and the Las Vegas factor.
Teams are probably angling their trade ammo towards the knights for Las Vegas to agree to not draft certain of their players.

I am not saying JvR isn't getting moved, duchene's name is up for discussion only because teams are asking for a later date trade.

Duchene and others go at the Chicago draft meetings because that is when teams has a clear sense of who is not in the future plans and when it is easier to map out the Cap futures and multi player trades.

I understand WHY that rumor has Roman Polak going Ducks way for Cap purposes but they have plenty of depth there already....they are gonna lose Dave Manson's son Josh, in expansion, and the cold facts are teams are unwilling to trade for pieces that Vegas can gobble up b/c they are simply not top three dee protectees
