To me Duchene is the guy we should be going for not Iggy. It's that simple, we should be looking to build our team not take on rentals

If the Avs are willing to retain some salary the deal could get interesting. No doubt the top prospects won't be included. But a mid level prospect/pick is not out of the question. Iggy is still a powerplay specialist and has the ability to change a team on and especially off of the ice, something that may come in handy for the Sens come playoff time. Sakic will move Iginla, he's just looking for the right fit, remember Iginla deserves a real shot at the cup and the Avs will conisder that heavily wherever they decide to move him.

I too have always loved iginla.

But, Iginla doesn't help the Sens much at all. He's an aging player that wont have a big impact on this team. I do wonder if he'd put up better numbers on a team that wasn't so bad though.

He would be an a slight upgrade. He'd be a rental. He is old and on the decline so he wont cost much.
He's not really what the team needs. In short, he's a quintessential senators deadline pick up.

He'll likely sell a lot of jerseys too.

Personally, I think if any teams fit Iggy, right now it's back to Calgary or back to Boston.

For the Sens, picking up rentals makes no sense because there is no way we are good enough to win a cup this year. we should be building for the future and trying to get to the point of being a cup contender

Not challenging you on the Senators not being in a position to be picking up rentals point, but why would he go to Boston or Calgary? Just nostalgia?

No actually. I think Iggy's rougher style of play fits into their systems really well. I also feel like they are teams who are looking for rentals to get them into the playoffs or try to get that extra bit of depth to get a cup

Ryan put into the 3rd line with pyatt and pageau.........it got Hoffman going, hopefully it can do the same for Ryan.....having to play on a line with 2 guys who work their asses off every shift.

I like this idea. I might consider sitting him for a game or two and then doing that though and letting him work his way back up too the top line.

That does still leave a huge hole as we still have a lack of a #1C which is why I keep bringing up Duchene (sorry i'm sure it's annoying)

The asking price for duchene is ridiculous.......not worth it

I agree, I still think Ceci, Lazar or Dzingle and a 1st at least gets the conversation started.

Plus I think it would be worth an investment in, imagine a line with the speed and scoring skill of Hoffman and Duchene. and have Duchene, Turris and Brassard as our top 3 C's. Would be a very competitive line up

Calgary and Boston? I'd say we are in just as good or better a position to win a Cup as they are... I.e., none of us have much of a chance at all.

But it is a bit insulting to suggest that two teams chasing us in the standings are a tier ahead of us...

Difference is that we should not be looking for rentals, they should be. I also think his playing style fits theirs and what they need more than what we need.

What about going after Anthony Duclair in Arizona? He's underachieving but appears to have significant potential to be a top 6. Maybe a straight up exchange for Lazar?

Change of scenery for both. An offensive option for Ottawa down the stretch. It could be a cheap and low-risk move. Both are RFAs at the end of the season, so it's a wash. Not sure Pheonix is ready to give up on Duclair though.

Agreed. He's not even that big an upgrade on the Cs we have, and for the price they're talking about, I'd rather another Eastern Conference team get robbed instead of us. Now, if he were playing LW for us, I'd be inclined to offer quite a bit... But I just can't see a way to make the trade without decimating our prospect pool or opening up another hole in the lineup.

I'd do it a 100 times out of 100. Very little chance Arizona would, though, I think.

Duclair put up more points in one year than lazar has in his career. He's having trouble now but no way they'd make that trade.

I don't either but I think having the top two lines be

Hoffman - Duchene - Ryan
Smith - Turris - Stone

would get him to 20 goals this year and I think back to 30 next year. I also think it would get Hoffman to 40+ goals a year and make us very competitive against other cup contending teams.

On Phaneuf goal on rebound on Bobby Ryan shot:

Two surprising things that we rarely see:

1) Ryan actually shot it instead of passing
2) He actually shot it hard

Wow

What are you giving up for Duchene in this scenario?
