It think it's important to consider that Kevin Bieksa's 4m comes off the salary cap at the same time Fowler's new deal would start. What he's done is basically reserve up to $4m in promotion money for Fowler. There will be little reason to bring Bieksa back at that time (assuming Bieksa doesn't get bought out, moved, or somehow drafted by Vegas). Either way, if Brent Burns makes $8m on a contract, Fowler will not make more than $8m.

Keep them all and trade Josh Manson for Michael Grabner. Helps both sides.

Trading Manson is a mistake for the Ducks - he fills 2 roles well - 2nd pairing D man and hammer - who is only going to get better on a very manageable contract and paired with 47 is terrific despite some bumps this yr -

Sami is the man to go with one of the kids - and a pick for a high end legit scoring winger -

Ed: "As the core of the team, their window is this year and next. In the fall of 2018 Kesler will be 34; Getzlaf and Perry 33. Its not feasible that all three will be playing at prime level then. The new core will be John Gibson, Hampus Lindholm, Rickard Rakell and maybe Nick Ritchie. At that time, Murray has to ask himself if its worth it for the Ducks to keep their declining star players on, in complementary roles? It will become increasingly cost prohibitive for Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler, as a group, to all be part of the team."

Getz and Perry are signed thru the 20-21 season with a NMC (no movement clause) for each of them. They're going nowhere. Kesler is signed thru 21-22 with a NMC. He's going nowhere. It doesn't matter if it's cost prohibitive or not to keep them, because it's almost as cost prohibitive to buy them out. Maybe you buy out their last year, or ask them to waive their NMC, but bottom line is I don't think they're going anywhere for another 3 years minimum.

Yeah, Manson is a decently mobile, physical, stay at home defensemen who limits opponent shots, and is affordable (and fights).

No way you move him unless someone is going to vastly overpay for him.

Sami (who I love) is too similar to Brandon Montour (who I also love) and with Montour's play, draft exemption status and salary, Vats is the odd man out.

Hate to see him go, but Sami should be the main piece to bring in a scoring winger either at the deadline or offseason. I can see Murray staying put for now and adding a veteran winger for the playoffs and looking to trade Sami this summer.

Expansion Protection:
Getz
Perry
Kesler
Rakell
Silf
Cogs
Forward from Sami trade

Lindholm
Fowler
Manson

Gibson

And before anyone responds, the above list ASSUMES Bieksa waives his NMC or is bought out prior to the draft. I think there's zero chance Murray is going to "waste" one of his protection picks on Bieksa.

The amount of times I've had to explain the Bieksa situation as well as Vermette's limited NMC is mind boggling.

I think Bieksa waives the NMC. He's got to know that Manson will get drafted instead of him. If he wants the Ducks to win, he'll know that they need to protect the best players they can.

For about the same money Bieksa makes, Vegas can draft TJ Brodie and Scandella, who are much younger.

Great read. I've been boring in regards to buying into trades, but with how the past 3 games have gone; I'd be lying if bringing in some offense on the wing didn't sound appealing. The finisher has been no where in sight for some lines. Yesterday, Perry was in the high slot and it was more of the same. On the other side of the coin, what's the point of leveraging the future when the guys you need to execute aren't executing to the required degree?

I'm going to refrain from jumping to conclusions, but I will say that losing Manson to the expansion draft would be a significant loss. He has all the intangibles, and all he has to do is net a few goals, so he can start shooting with some confidence. Khudobin slid out of the goal on his only goal of the year. I was laughing. Seriously though, Manson has got to net some goals down the stretch so he's not shy to hammer it in the playoffs.

First they have to make the playoffs!
