If there is a silver lining to that game then it would be that seems the Sens can hang around and almost win games even when they play quite poorly, and make a ton of mistakes. We have been saying this for awhile now but I think nobody will be happier to see Andy return than Condon, that dude is due for a rest!

My silver lining would be that so many flukes and weird goals against were contained within just one game. The irony, of course, is that the all-star break was supposed to be a significant rest for Condon, and he seemed quite rusty. Condon may be like Anderson in that he actually plays his best in situations where the workload is borderline unreasonable.

It may also be that Condon is a backup goalie and much like his stint with Montreal, he is simply proving that he just isn't good enough to start (or play well) in 25 straight games. If you're being objective about his performance last night - he stank! Start Hammond vs Tampa.

I agree, I think he is an ideal guy for about 30 starts a year, just not 30 starts in a row!

I don't believe that number for a second.

the Ottawa one seems right, thought it would have been a bit higher but not much......I don't believe for one second that Florida's avg attendance is anywhere near 15k, every time you see highlights from florida half the lower bowl and pretty much every seat above that is empty.

Capacity at Sunrise 20,737, so it always looks empty.
Ottawa attendance is bang on (Have

man, I've been to games there and I'd be shocked if there were more than 10k people in those stands. I'd be willing to bet that 14k is the number of tickets sold/given away and not the actual amount through the gate.

I definitely believe the Ottawa numbers though...........between horrible ownership and the fact that so many federal government employees haven't been paid for months it's not surprising that attendance has dipped a lot this year.

You are correct on the sold /tickets/given away. The same applies to Ottawa and every other team in the league.

true, but I'd be willing to bet that the number through the gate in Ottawa is a lot closer to the number sold/given away then it is in florida.........and let's be honest, do you honestly believe that Eugene would allow that many tickets to be "given" away.

I went to a game in florida, bought nose bleed tickets, and they were giving away free tickets against the glass if you could answer a trivia question......scalpers had lower bowl tickets for like 10$

no doubt attendance is bad in Ottawa this year, but I don't believe for a second that florida is within 2k people in the rink per night.

No argument. Florida is bad. On some nights in Ottawa, I know for a fact they move people down from the 200 section to fill the lower bowl so the optics are good for TV.
If we are comparing Ottawa to Florida, of course Ottawa is doing better, but isn't everyone in the league. February will be good barometer for the organization. They had a good January, but most of that is Christmas presents and some good draws (Tor, Edm, Wash, Cal).

I honestly believe that the pay issue that's crippling the fed gvt right now is playing a huge role in what's going on with the attendance in Ottawa.....and until that's resolved I think attendance will continue to be low.

if you don't know the situation, the entire public service was put onto a new pay system called phoenix, and it has been a disaster since day one. there are literally thousands of public servants who haven't been paid, or been paid far less than they should, for almost a year now...........in a city where the team relies heavily on gate sales rather than season tickets, when the biggest employer pretty much stops paying its employees, your gonna see that reflected in attendance numbers.

I think there are other reasons why fans aren't going, but I don't think people consider that reason as much as they should. if I wasn't getting paid, or was just getting paid enough to get by, going to a hockey game probably wouldn't be high on my list of priorities.

For those of you in the GTA, please understand this inescapable fact about Ottawa. It is a federal government town. They are the largest employer. FUN FACT: The federal government pay system has been in meltdown for over a year. Guess what? The payroll issues coincide directly with the drop in Ottawa's attendance. Since the letdown in the tech sector, which was Ottawa's other big employer, corporate ticket sales are also down.

Now we all can't live in corporate Utopia, like T.O. and Montreal, where schmoozing clients with tickets to the game is a way of life (there are many rules in place that prevent government departments from purchasing tickets). Ottawa has to rely on game day sales. Unfortunately, when people are not getting paid and can't make mortgage, rent, car and utility payments, they are certainly not going to buy tickets to a sporting event.

Once the pay issues are fully addressed, the attendance will go back to where it was. This town has not fallen out of love with the Sens, despite what you might think you perceive.

Cheers

the last 2 posts are right on the money!
I've been a season ticket holder for over 10 years but I've also been affected by Pheonix...still waiting for April 2016 money to come in!! they also screwed up December 2016...fortunately, compared to others who have it worst then me, I got paid in between and after these 2 Phoenix issues...it is very frustrating and indeed going to hockey games, even for a season ticket holder, becomes a lot less important when money isn't coming in because of the employer...
