Ben Case: Looking to Shake Road Woes and Take Control of 8th in the East A week ago the Canes pulled off a 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets in an exciting game. The game was the second straight win for the Canes and it helped propel the Canes to winning all four home-games in just over a week. The great play at home has led to a significant rise in the standings for the Canes and by the end of tonight they could potentially be in the final wildcard spot.

He's been there all season literally. He hasn't been consistent or too defensively solid. If it wasn't for his youth and ceiling, he'd have easily been benched long ago.

Its a tough 3 game stretch with 2 against CBJ and 1 vs Pens. Alex will need to be big in 1 game. He has big ceiling but like Hanafin, not too impressive so far.

I know they haven't played since Friday but at some point Peters needs to give Ward some rest and stick Leighton in goal. I don't care how bad the backup is, 20 straight games is too many for Ward at this stage of his career.

Peters said he may shuffle the pairings if Hainsey can't go.

I would expect Hanifin to go with Faulk for a period at least. Dahlbeck-Tennyson is less than ideal, but what can ya do?

Well, Leighton would have to be with the big club in order to do that. He's not right now.

Interesting. I wouldn't be too worried long term though.

I think less has to do with his talent level and more to do with he hasn't had a consistent D partner all season. It has been a revolving door of Tennyson/Dahlbeck/Murphy. Most 19 yr. olds get a seasoned vet to show them the way.

That being said, he doesn't have any consequences for making mistakes or poor play. I personally think that is negative on the development of a player. They need to get scratched and benched sometimes to help them understand when to take risks and etc.

I must admit I am surprised how long he has gone with Ward. I'm guessing they are trying to get to the All-Star break and will then decide what to do. February isn't too crazy of a schedule in terms of game breakdown per week. March is miserable though and there is no way Ward can do that month alone.

I would be surprised if he moved Hanifin with Faulk. Hanifin has played better once he has a consistent partner IMO. I imagine he will only shuffle them if both Dahlbeck-Faulk and Hanifin-Tennyson combo is struggling.

It'll be interesting to see how we do with Dahlbeck, Tennyson and Hanifin in the line-up. Not exactly what I'd call a intimidating or fortified blue-line.

He's been okay as a 19 year old, but I think he would be well served to sit down and do a lot of film work this summer with Wesley and Samuelsson.

Peters talked for a while about getting Noah more ice time in the second half of the season. This could be one of the ways to do that. Think Hainsey may be traded regardless of where we are in the standings if Francis doesn't think he'll sign an extension.

I think they sent him down to get some games this week. He hasn't seen much action for a while, so some game-time is probably the reason. I would be shocked if Nedeljkovic got any gametime in the NHL-probably just bringing him up so that he can work with the main squad a little and learn from Ward some too.

Lack apparently made the trip with the team and practiced today too. I wonder how close he is to returning. My other thought though is that a third concussion in one season would be a serious health question. I personally don't think Lack should be anywhere close to the ice again this season-seems stupid and unnecessary.

Can't disagree with that. He sometimes gets lost in the D zone watching the puck.

That is true too-he has talked about increasing his ice-time. His last few games have been an improvement as of his December performance.

I would be shocked if Hainsey wouldn't accept an extension at this point in his career. The market for 35+ D-men can be brutal in UFA. Most likely, he would get signed by another rebuilding team. I imagine he wants to try and stay with a competitive team. Then again, at 36 in March, he might be looking at retirement honestly.

It's a fine line, ya know? We've seen a similar situation with Gostisbehere this year, but at this point I'd rather he get the playing time then keep sitting every few games.

Very true there. I have been surprised at how many times he has been scratched.

I'm not sure about Dave Hakstol as a coach, honestly. Something feels out of sync with the way that team plays/is constructed.

I liked him a lot at first but the lack of emotion/heart the team exhibits since he's taken over is extremely alarming. Not to mention his strange line up decisions.

Doesn't help that Giroux is all but nonexistent at even strength right now

Hainsey shouldn't be playing. I know Dahlbeck isn't the best D man but he has be better than an even slower Hainsey.

I stand by my comment I made yesterday before the game. I have seen this from Ward before when he gets overused.

This team needs an All Star break badly. If the Flyers didn't stall out, the Canes would be out of the picture.
