The blueline which was all thought to be world class isn't. Of the big 3 only TJ Brodie has been capable of handling big responsibilities. Kulak and Engelland have drove possession on the 3rd pairing and sheltered minutes but that is not enough. Giordano has looked slow quite frankly and his horrible penalties are costing the team. Dougie looks lost out there as you could see with that no look backhand pass up the neutral zone that led to a goal. |

Wayyyy too early to panic. Flames will turn things around
Sens d and goaltending are horrid. Easy win that night. - systemtool
Sens fans are likely saying the same thing about the Flames.
Johnson was solid again last night from what I saw but this D corps (specifically the two top D not named T.J. Brodie) look awful. I don't know if it's an adjustment with the new coaching staff and a new scheme or what but they look lost in their own end. I have a feeling the team will turn it around soon but it doesn't look good so far.
Special teams are sinking the team too. 0-4 on the PP last night which makes an 0-23 (I think) run since Widedog scored a PPG against Edmonton. Absolutely pathetic.
A terrible start sunk the team last season, hears to hoping they can get their poop together before it gets too bad. At this point, I just want to see quality hockey from them. |

I agree with this. The Flames have way too much young talent to suck this bad all year.
They will turn it around....unfortunately |

I said it at the time, and still think so today. Trading for Hamilton effed up the progression and rebuild of the team. |

How so? You need the defenceman, and ,considering D's learning curve, had you used those picks to draft and develope one they would still be in junior, and would most likely not be a NHL rookie ( and we know how inaffective Rookie D usually are) for 2 years.
You certainly wont be better today. |

Why? He's like 23. He has some growing to do for sure but he'll be a solid top 2 or 3 soon! |

Not only that but Gudreau, Money and Bennett need to get going as well. McDavid is out producing all three combined so far. |

Hes probably related to the famous Harts from Calgary. Not the richest gene pool in the brains department. |

Didn't we not hire Dave Cameron to run our PP/PK. If anyone needs to be held accountable I would think it would be him. |

At some point, we will have to admit that the Flames defense isn't as great as they are made out to be. You can't blame the poor GA last year on the goalies alone, as we still see high GA with new goaltenders that had great GAAs last year. The quality of shots and opportunities is too high. Same issue as Dubnyk looking terrible in Edmonton and a star in Minnesota. I can't believe that Elliott and Johnson have forgotten how to stop pucks.

He certainly had a nice saucer pass up the middle to Perron to make it 5-2 ! Gaudreau and Monahan being -4 doesn't help either. The top line has been bad this year and last night they were exposed many times. Monahan / Gaudreau had better get something going or at least play much better defensively or this team is going to be out of in a couple of weeks. |

I'd say the D isn't playing as well as they are capable of playing.
And the players on the PP have shown they're better.
The goalies have shown they're better.
The drafting and player development is better now than it's been for at least 10 years.
The only people that haven't shown a decent track record are the coaches.
The players are trying but the team looks as bad as I've ever seen it.
How is that not on the coaches?

You know it's a sad day when Oiler and Leaf fans come to the Flames thread and try and help them feel better about their team.
All being said, they are right though. Things will turn around for the flames. They too good a team and there is an adjustment to a new coach. SeMo was hurt, JoGa wasn't mentally prepared because of his negotiation with the Flames. It will get better |
