Other than Laughton, is there any prospect who has a legit chance to make the big club this season?

keep up the great work!

Probably not, at least to start the season and barring injuries. However, if the team is able to carry 8 defensemen, as it did last season, a spot could be opened up for someone like Brandon Manning.

Hi Bill,

If you wanted an 8th defenseman (barring any trades), would you rather have Manning or Lauridsen as your #8? They'd likely not be playing, so it would be of their benefit to NOT be the #8 and get playing time in the AHL. I think Lauridsen is more of a finished product, so I'd prefer to have him as the #8 and for Manning to get more minutes in the AHL.

Hey Bill, why wasn't Lappy running the camp this year? Did he part ways with the Flyers? Sorry, if I am behind the times, but I am getting older.
Thanks for the info., and keep it coming. Do you have any plans on participating with Ek's cast this summer?
Peace.

Pretty sure he's an assistant coach now.

Today in Flyers history: On this date in 1992, the Flyers came to terms with heralded rookie Eric Lindros on a six-year, $3.7 million contract.

Gotta love the "Big E." In his prime, he was awesome. Loved that speach, where he spoke from the heart, and told the fans not to give up. Priceless.
Too bad, his career had to end like it did. I still have my 88 jersey hanging up.
Just sayin'.

I'd be OK with either as a 7th or 8th guy. Not sure there's much more developing for either guy at the AHL level. Both Manning and Lauridsen have had nearly three full seasons in the AHL, and I'm not sold that either is really much more than a depth guy at the NHL level anyhow.

If it wasn't for him, a lot of current hockey fans around my age would never have become hockey fans. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's a thing.

When he was fully healthy, he was the best player I've ever seen next to Mario and Gretzky (I've never seen Orr). When he really wanted to score a goal, it was next to impossible to stop him.

That's pretty much how I see them, too. I just think Manning could work a little bit more on his offensive game, while I don't think Lauridsen will ever have one to speak of. But yeah, neither one will make or break the Flyers.

Well, if it weren't for him, the hockey fans of your age may have been drawn to hockey by Peter Forsberg

I think that they can be useful-or maybe more useful- in the AHL to help the kids acclimate to the pro game.

Manning might be a bit better choice as a spare. He has a more well rounded game than Lauridsen who would really only fit as an injury replacement for Grossmann.

Maybe. But Lindros, the trade for him, was such a big story, it was more than just a superstar player. It was like the coming of Christ, or at least Christ's brother who never skated with his head up.
