Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has slammed the door shut on the bogus rumors that hinted that restricted free agent David Pastrnak was on the trade block.

"Not trading Pastrnak," Sweeney said in a curt email to the Boston Globe, which confirms a report from yours truly on Monday, and should calm down any fears of Pastrnak's situation playing out like it did for Phil Kessel during his summer holdout with the club in 2009.

“We will continue to negotiate — we still have lots of time,” Barry, who represented Loui Eriksson and Dougie Hamilton during their troublesome negotiations with the Bruins, said in an email to the Globe’s request for comment Tuesday morning. “David prefers to sign a longer term deal with the Bruins.. The negotiations between myself and Don have been very open and both sides understand each other’s positions. Hopefully we can agree on an overall structure that is amenable to both sides in the next month.”

The 21-year-old Pastrnak set career-high marks in goals (34), assists (36), and points (70) for the Bruins a season ago, and is believed to be seeking a long-term deal worth over $6 million per season and potentially up to nearly $7 million per season. Pastrnak’s camp may also like to ‘lockout-proof’ the contract (which has become a trend in recent signings), which means that it would be heavy on signing bonuses and money upfront.

Sweeney and the Bruins still have over $10 million in cap space to their name, and with Pastrnak their only remaining player left to re-sign this summer.
