Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron continued the climb the ranks as the one of the club’s all-time greats in his 68-point 2015-16 season. In a season that saw Bergeron pass names like Neely and O’Reilly on the all-time scoring list, Bergeron has continued his excellent season even though the games have stopped, and has been named a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy.

Awarded to the forward that best excels in the defensive aspects of the game, the Boston alternate captain was named a finalist alongside Anaheim’s Ryan Kesler and L.A. Kings center Anze Kopitar.

“Being named a finalist for the Selke Trophy is a tremendous honor and one I am very grateful for,” Bergeron said in a statement provided by the Bruins on Thursday night. “While it is an individual award, my teammates and coaches deserve a lot of credit as well. Ryan [Kesler] and Anze [Kopitar] are two elite players who both had great seasons and it is a privilege to be a finalist alongside them. Thanks to all of those who voted and I look forward to the NHL Awards Show on June 22.”

The 30-year-old led the NHL in faceoffs taken (1,978) and wins (1,130), and his faceoff percentage was the seventh-best in the league, and is a finalist for the Selke for the fifth year in a row.

Bergeron has three Selke Trophy wins in his NHL career -- 2012, 2014, 2015 -- and is tied with Guy Carbonneau, Pavel Datsyuk, and Jere Lehtinen for second all-time.

A win this June would tie Bergeron with Montreal legend Bob Gainey for the most all time.
