Ek's note: Despite living in Vancouver, British Columbia his entire life, Trevor Shackles has been following the Ottawa Senators ever since he was little. He has been writing about hockey since the end of 2013, and about the Senators since the fall of 2014. He was previously with SB Nation's Silver Seven Sens for almost three years and was briefly with Fansided's Senshot prior to that, plus his podcast The Cost Per Pointcast has been around since June 2016. We are excited to have him as a part of the Hockeybuzz community!

Some of you may have read my work from previous sites, and some of you have not.

Either way, I wanted to begin my Hockeybuzz career by saying hello to my new Senators audience! I’ll have a blog post up either today or tomorrow, but first, I feel like it’s important to introduce myself.

Obviously, I know that I have some big shoes to fill. Jared Crozier was here for a long time, and the writer before him, Travis Yost, was actually the first Senators blogger I can remember reading. So to be able to follow in his footsteps is incredible, as Travis has had a huge influence on myself. Jared also created a name for himself over the years, and I’m sure many of you loved his work, so I’ll do my best to be a great replacement.

Having said that, I can’t and I won’t be the same as either of them, as I want to create my own footprint. If you’re unfamiliar with my work, I had been at SB Nation’s Silver Seven Sens since the summer of 2015, and prior to that, I was at Fansided’s Senshot for just under a year. If you include my initial writing experience for the San Jose Sharks, I’ve been blogging for almost four and a half years now.

I was born and raised in Richmond, British Columbia, and you’re free to make as many young jokes as you’d like, as I’m just a senior student at UBC. Despite my location, I have been a fan of the Senators ever since I was little for some strange reason. The only reason I can come up with is that I saw them on TV and the toddler in me liked their colours and thought they were good. Nevertheless, they’ve been my team ever since.

Of course, I don’t try to hide the fact that I am a fan as well, but I also try to be as level-headed as possible with my writing. You won’t see me writing positive posts no matter what the circumstances, and in fact, I’ve been known to be one of the more critical writers out there. Despite that, I don’t want to be known simply as a negative blogger, because that’s honestly not who I am. I’m someone who is very opinionated, but I’ll always back it up with facts or stats.

Luckily I will be writing a lot more frequently than I did at Silver Seven Sens, which means that I’ll be able to touch on more topics, so not every post will have to be about the direction of the organization or impending doom in the future. I’m excited to write about small things that I normally wouldn’t write about, such as prospect updates, interesting quotes, funny developments, or any number of things.

As I said, I’m incredibly excited to get started at Hockeybuzz, and I can’t wait to begin interacting with everyone! It should be one hell of an intriguing summer coming up.

Cheers, and Go Sens Go.

-Trevor
