Binghamton Toast

I only paid casual attention to the Binghamton Senators during their brief playoff appearance, but I doubt Ottawa's front office is very pleased. Wilkes/Barre Scranton eliminated them in four games, and bludgeoned them 5-1 in the elimination game on Friday night.

For a team that had JG Pageau, Mark Stone, and Cody Ceci -- among others -- at their disposal, I think organizational expectations were that of the Eastern Division to make some sort of earnest run at the Calder Cup. You'd especially think so after ownership made comments about the organization having "too much talent" earlier in the year.

But, the same problems that plagued this year's Ottawa Senators played AHL Binghamton in the post-season. Namely, they conceded fourteen goals against in four games, and were on an unstoppable parade to the penalty box. That, and they played a Pittsburgh team in the post-season. I love this tweet from Scott.

So, collectively, not really great performances from the guys looking to make the next jump here, though Stephane Da Costa (2G/2A) and Mark Stone (1G/3A) had a nice little run.

The veterans on Wilkes/Barre -- Chuck Kobasew and Andrew Ebbett -- combined for twelve points in the series and never seemed to leave the ice in game five. And 22-year old Brian Dumoulin was, in the time that I did catch some of the action, one of the best players on both sides of the ice.

Back with more tomorrow.
